"What's this?" Raul asked, as he unwrapped a dead halibut. "It means the L.A. Radars sleep with the fish." Yes, the Homers kicked some big-time butt in winning 13 - 4 last Wednesday (apologies for putting this out so late). For a while it looked as though our heroes would have to forfeit this game, but at 5:30 that day the Radars generously (perhaps foolishly - HAHAHAHAHA) gave us 15 more minutes to find the rest of our team. Fortunately, Laurie showed up soon after, followed by Scott at 5:43, which allowed us to take the field with the minimum of eight players.
Positions: Raul, pitcher; Scott, first; Laurie, second; Mario (Raul's friend who showed up on four hours notice), shortstop; Kevin, third; Jeff, right; Debbie, center; Richard, left. Around the second inning, a guy wandering around the Rose Bowl turned out to be Raul's friend Angel and was drafted on the spot and sent to right field, moving Jeff to catcher. And finally, good old Sandra showed up around the third and became our rover.
Highlights of the day: Richard and Angel both blasted home runs to center field; Angel later added a triple which would have been another home run had he not jogged. Debbie made two running catches on defense and got three hits in four at-bats including a double down the third base line which left burn marks on the grass. Mario and Scott teamed up well defensively to account for about 40% of our putouts. A few brave souls sang the traditional fifth-inning stretch while the rest looked disgusted or embarassed. No kids were within throwing distance. 'Twas a good day for all.
The next game is Wednesday at 5:30 again. We will be playing on field H3, which I believe is the field we held our second and third practices on. It's in the southwest corner.
