ARRRRGH - another loss for the Homers. At least the team we lost to, the Roving Marauders, was pretty nice. The final score ended up somewhere around 19 to 15, with 12 of their runs coming in one ugly, ugly inning. Starting for the good guys were Raul at pitcher, Mary at catcher, Richard at first, Beth at second, Debbie at short, Lela at third, Mark in left, Don in center, Alex (Lela's s.o.) in right, and Bill (Beth's son) at rover. Near the end of the game the Homers suffered the first casualty of the season when Lela went out with a strained muscle in her thigh, prompting Laurie to come in at second, moving Beth over to third. Also, Richard and Raul switched positions near the fourth inning, as did Mark and Alex.

The Homerian offense looked better than it has in three weeks as everybody hit the ball well. In particular, Don got a home run in his first at-bat, Richard got his second home run of the year, and Alex got a triple on his last swing. Defenesively, well, we did force them to hit 18 outs through the course of the game, about four of which were from their 10-year-old centerfielder. After the game ended around 7:40, seven of us headed for Mijares for dinner, where Mark, Mary, Raul, Alex, and Laurie split two pitchers of margaritas for the CNN play of the day.

The next game is Tuesday (today) at 5:30. We get to defend our unbeaten home record, which means that Raul gets to skew the field toward our strengths. We will be playing on field H2, which is on the south side of the Rose Bowl. It's one of the two fields with back-to-back backstops.
