Oh baby oh baby oh baby - we played great! The Space Punks looked united as a team before the game started, but 6 1/2 innings of Homer devastation left them looking like the Republican Guard or perhaps the Cubs. The final score: 13 to 10. Starting for the Homers were Raul at pitcher, Jeff at catcher, Scott at first, Lela at second, Mike at short, Debbie at third, Don in left, Richard in center, and Alex in right. Richard's friend Hank kept the bench warm during the first inning, and Kevin showed up later to help. Mary arrived around the third inning and spent the game at rover.

After two or three weeks of getting pounded, our defense was great. Raul did give up two home runs to the other team's ox, but that was about it. Mostly, the Space Punks ended up hitting nice ground balls to our infielders for easy throws to first. Defensive play of the game: in the top of the last inning, the Punks showed some life as the first two or three batters got hits. However, on one hit to left field, Hank threw the ball to Debbie covering second, who then tagged the runner hard after he had overrun the base by a step or two. It's really unfortunate there's not a JPL football or a JPL rugby league, for I know whom I'd want to be my team's linebacker.

Offensively, we looked great as well. Hits were distributed fairly well throughout our lineup. Alex got another good home run, but this time Mark, who's been hitting the ball well of late, also came through with a three-run homer around the fourth inning. Man, this team is looking great. Mary got her best hit of the season with a scorcher to right field, and Jeff beat out about two hits to the left side of the infield. Oh, and Lela flattened the second baseman with a ground ball that took a nice bounce right into his chest, bringing back memories of Raul's beaning of the Maulers' second baseman Donna last week. This one was able to continue playing, though.

Oh, yes, Vegas is still on for the weekend of June 29. For those who don't want to spend too much time gambling, let it be known that many of us plan to go in, lose a little bit of money quickly, and then go do something else. Don't forget that the money left over from the fee collected for the Homers is going to be spent on carne asada for the barbeque on Saturday night, so don't miss out. Oh, those who go are requested to bring a dish for the aformentioned barbeque.

The Dodger game is also happening. 24 of us are going on Cap Night to watch the Phillies loooooose on July 23.

Next week's game is Monday on field H4 against the Voodoo Toad Fury at 5:30. This field is the one just south of the bathroom on the northwest corner of the Rose Bowl field. It looks like we are going to be short on players as Debbie, Jerri, Mary, Richard, and Mike are confirmed no-shows already due to vacation, school, rocks, B league, and B league.
