Oh man, were we great or what? Down 8 to 0 after the top of the first, the Homers came back strongly by scoring 19 runs in the first three innings. Final score: Homers 22, Cosmis Debris 21. Team enthusiasm hit a season high as the team sang the traditional 5th inning stretch and cheered loudly (sounding like a rebel yell) for every hit and every run scored. Starting for the Homers were Raul at pitcher, Alex a catcher, Chuck at first, Lela at second, Juan at short, Debbie at third, Don in left, Rob in center, Joe in right, and Mary at rover. Jeff, Mark, and Richard sat out during the excruciating first innning and rotated in afterward. Jerry and Laurie were there for moral support and for dinner after the game, during which Chuck was heard to say that he wished we had let them score one more run so that we could have batted again in the bottom of the seventh and pulled it out. Chuck, you should have been with this team during the first seven weeks of this year. But maybe it is time for a new attitude.

Everybody played well yesterday. Mark got four solid hits in four at bats, the biggest being the first inning single with two outs that scored Richard and kept alive our four run inning. He also made his best defensive play of the year on a deep fly ball to right. Raul hit three, count 'em, three home runs, one of them being of the little league variety but the other two being legitimate Homer-monsters. Rob and Juan also impressed with home runs of their own. The most surprising hit might have been Jeff's, who hit the ball to right-center field during one of our three big two-out rallies. Debbie contributed two solid plays defensively by catching a line drive and throwing out the batter on a solid ground ball. Juan at catcher threw to Richard at first to pick off a runner who had broken the wrong way after the batter swung and missed. Joe showed some speed on a couple of ground balls that he hit. There must be a lot more things that I'm missing.

Our team record is now 5 wins and 6 losses, but we have won three of our last four games, the only loss in that period being the ugly game against the ugly Voodoo Toad Fury. Our next game is Wednesday against the Foxes and Hounds on field H6 for the third straight week. That's the one at the northeast corner that doesn't have marked basepaths.

**** CORRECTION to HOMERS REPORT (10): It seems that I forgot to mention Juan's home run down the right field line late in the game. Sorry, Juan. Juan also played a big part in our first double play of the year. The batter hit a hard gound ball to Lela, knocking her onto her butt. However, she hung with it and flipped the ball to Juan, the shortstop for the inning, covering second, who caught it barehanded and immediately threw it to first for the double play. Sorry again, Juan. One last first: did anyone else notice that it was our first win on the day before a solar eclipse?

Jeff has pointed out that Wednesday's game is on field H3, not field H6. H3 is at the southwest corner, where the batter stares into the sun on pitches thrown just right.
