Massive beat; sexy female dancers on a par with those on In Living Color; omnipresent voices singing Oh-OohOoh-OH - Raul twirls around with an unseen cordless microphone, stops for a second, and "[U] Can't Touch This." OK, we may be dated, but we are owners of a massive five-game winning streak after defeating the Maulers 13 to 9 in an extremely enjoyable game, enjoyable not just because the Maulers were friendly as were we, but also because we gave them a good thrashing. Our undefeated second half of the season leaves our record at 8 wins and 6 losses as every Homer continues to improve.

Starting for the Homers yesterday were Raul at pitcher, Richard at catcher, Chuck at first, Lela/Debbie/Beth at second/third/rover, Scott at short, Don in left, Alex in center, and Jeff in right. Joe showed up after the first to catch the rest of the game, leaving Richard, Chuck, and Scott to split first and short. Bill, Raymond, Laurie, and Betsy were all there to share in the fun. Chuck, who had a good day batting, Alex, Scott, and all hit home runs while Debbie got an important, run-scoring single in the second when the Homers went ahead 4 to 2. Joe got his best hit of the year on a line drive up the middle. Defensively, Beth a number of good defensive plays again, the most impressive being a hard ground ball to second base. Debbie made a good play on a ground ball to third on which she made the long throw to first for the out. Don continued to grow bolder in left field by moving in further without letting any ball over his head. Richard made a good catch on a line drive behind second base, and Alex made an important catch in center which he bobbled twice in the air.

However, the defensive player of the game must have been Raul despite how difficult it is for a pitcher in C league to make a difference. The Maulers never got a big, devastating inning or any monstrous home runs as Juan didn't show up to betray us again, and Raul got Rich Benesh all three times (a deep fly to Don and two ground balls to short) by pitching inside while Rich was looking to drive the ball to the right side. Raul also started our second double play of the season in the first inning when the Maulers looked good with the bases loaded, one run in, and only one out. The batter, our one-time teammate Donna, grounded the ball to Raul, who underhanded the ball to the catcher Richard, who stepped on home and then threw to Scott at first to get Donna without plunking her in the back of the head.

Raul is hosting the Luau at the Hawaiian Hut - Duarte on August 24. Keep your ears tuned for more details. Ostensibly, the purpose of the party is to celebrate Junior's 26th(?) birthday.

The Homers take on the Heavy Hitters next Tuesday on field H6, which is the unmarked field at the northeast corner of the Rose Bowl. One more win assures us of a winning season, although Raul has set his goal on remaining undefeated in the second half. The management of the Homers would like to apologize for not singing the fifth-inning stretch against the Maulers. We were all too caught up in the game, and we were missing at least two of our best voices. Let's not forget again, for we are the home team for the second straight week.
