Word has gotten out about the Homers of '92, for the scheduled opponents, the Rock Lobsters, did not show up yesterday. Fortunately for the Homers, the league office had the foresight to have a backup opponent, a team from Parsons Engineering in Pasadena, waiting at the Rose Bowl. So the Homers did get a chance to fine tune our taunting, intimidating, in-your-face defense during a 10-8 victory. Team manager Raul Haro, with his finger pointed at the face of the opposing manager, personally challenged anyone from Parsons to "come and get some", but none dared to stand up to such a manly and generally buff presence.

The starting lineup for the Homers was Raul at pitcher, Jeff at catcher, Scott at first, Juan at second, Jason at shortstop, Beth at third, Mat (Junior's co-worker at Edison) in left, Jesus in left-center, Junior in right-center, and Richard in right. Bob Verish showed up after the first inning, paid a one-inning penalty for being late, and then entered the game in the third. Spectating for the Homers were Laurie, Bob, and Josh, who were all preoccupied with the newest addition to the Verish household, the Puppy.

The only home run of the day for the Homers came from Mat, who hit a three- run shot in the third inning. Richard tried a little too hard to get his name in this report by trying to stretch a triple into a home run but was thrown out at the plate. Defensively, Jason, who was unfairly unmentioned in the last Homers report, played well at shortstop. For the second time in the season, the Homers threw out an opponent at the plate; this time, the batter hit a hard liner to left that got by Junior, who did manage to protect himself. Jesus chased the ball down and threw to Richard, who relayed it to Jeff at the plate to put out the aforementioned batter. The Homers also turned a double play or two.

Next week's game is on the same field (H3, at the southwest corner of the Rose Bowl) at the same time. We'll be playing Just Plain Lucky, who will probably show up if we can get Raul to stop leaving injury threats on the opposing manager's void.
