Well, the most loyal and dedicated of the HOMERS are celebrating another hard fought victory over their latest victims, the Gravity Fielders, 9 to 8. For a while there it wasn't even clear if there would be a game, there were after all only seven loyal and dedicated HOMERS. The Gravity Fielders, however, had some surplus players they were willing to part with, so the game went on.
Starting for the HOMERS was Raul at pitcher, Brian (in his season debut) in center field, Juan at short stop, Alma at catcher, Alex in left field, Jeff in right field, and Debbie (fresh off the fifteen day disabled list) at second base. We were joined by Dale at first base and Karen at third, courtesy of the Gravity Fielders.
Despite the low score there were a couple offensive highlights for the HOMERS, namely homers. Juan hit a big three run blast to right field in the first inning, and Brian contributed another solo shot in the fourth. The second inning also saw the middle of the line up string together a two out rally that accounted for another 4 runs.
The real highlight of the game was the defense. The Gravity Fielders were held scoreless for three innings (including the top of the seventh when they trailed by only one run and got runners on first and third only to be turned away empty handed). Brian, Dale, Juan, Alex, and Debbie all made great defensive plays in the field. We even managed to play without injuring any of our own players, although we did manage to hit the Gravity Fielders first base coach, not mention that old brown Toyota (several times!) with some exciting throws from short stop to first base (and Richard wasn't even there!) [Yes that's right Richard, you get picked on even though you weren't there. What did you expect when you made me write this silly report?]
Hopefully, we will have a better turn out for next week's game (including a real HOMERS Report writer) and keep our winning streak alive!
