In yesterday's long anticipated rematch, Voodoo Toad Fury beat the Homers 21 to 13 yesterday by hitting the ball hard. The Homers scored five in the top of the first but then gave up 12 in the bottom and never managed to catch up. Starting for the Homers were Raul at pitcher, Jeff at catcher, Scott at first, Laurie at second, Richard at short, Beth at third, Jesus in left, Jerry in center, Jason in right, and Lela at rover. The second shift consisted of Juan at first, Debbie at second, Alex at short, Don J in left, Kelly in center, and Don F in right. The spectator turnout was outstanding as well: Bill, Josh, Michael, Raymond, Brian, and Randy (Kelly's friend in crutches). Finishing the fight at Round Table after the game were Jeff, Raul, Don, Beth, Josh, Bill, Don, Lela, Alex, Jerry, Laurie, Jason, and Jesus, who collectively picked up three free pitchers for general studliness, at which point Bob showed up.
Although no Homer hit a home run, we did swing the bat pretty well. Laurie got a hit and scored, and Raul claims to have hit a big-time double to right-center. Defensively, we had our share of errors and CNN PODs; in the latter category, Beth skied to pull down a linedrive at third, Don F made a nice sprint in to catch a line drive in right, Kelly fought off Jason to catch a deep fly in left center, Jeff nailed a Toad at home plate, and Debbie knocked down a line drive, recovered, and threw out the batter at first.
Our next game, which closes out the first half of the season, wil be on Monday, June 29, against the Crawdads on field H4, the same field as yesterday, where the defense on the left side will be looking into the sun, not that such a puny impediment could have any effect on a team as focused as we have proven to be.
