George: Why isn't dog racing an olympic sport?

Jerry: Dog racing?! They're not people...there's gambling and
drinking and cigars....It's the absolute antithesis of the olympics.

George: Sure...professional dogs...I'm talking about amateurs.

Jerry: How about pistol shooting - now there's a boring event.

Kramer: I think they should gather all the athletes together in the centre
of town and let them shoot it out like the OK corral.

Jerry: Then there would be no silver or bronze medals?

Kramer: That's right. It would be complete elimination.
On a night when Americans showed their dominance in swimming, basketball, and comedy, the Homers pounded the Space Punks 22 to 12, weathering a 7-run second inning by the Punks. Starting for the Homers were Don J at pitcher, Don F at catcher, Scott at first, Laurie at second, Richard at short, Beth at third, Jesus in left, Kelly in left center, Juan in right center, and Jason in right. Field-manager-for-a-day Jeff entered the game defensively in the second inning. The Homers built a big lead by scoring 6, 5, and 7 runs in the first three innings and then cruised through the rest of the game despite early departures by Kelly and Richard. Jason, the Dons, Jesus, Jeff, and Laurie continued the parade afterward at Fuddrucker's.

The Homers blasted four home runs yesterday: 2 by Jesus, and 1 each for Richard and Juan. Everybody on the team had at least one hit with Jeff getting at least four and Don at least three. Defensively, the Homers gave up a couple of home runs, but in general the Space Punks didn't hit too well.

Our next game is Monday, August 3, against the Maulers at Victory Park. I don't think it would be possible to overemphasize this match. In preparation for this, Laurie and Richard will take a little batting practice over the weekend. Everyone should feel free to participate.

ERRATA: Don Jacob announces that Monday's game has been moved from Victory Park to Eaton Blanche Park, which is also in East Pasadena. Go south on Sierra Madre Villa/Madre and then make a right on Del Mar; the park is very close to that corner on the south side of the street.
