In one of the few comfortable games of the season, the Homers beat the Rock Lobsters 17 to 11. The Homers led 11 to 3 after two innings and never gave up the lead. Starting for the winning team were Don J at pitcher, Juan at catcher, Richard at first, Laurie at second, Jason at short, Lela at 3rd, Jesus in left, Kelly in left-center, Mark in right-center, Gerry in right. Jeff bellyached through the first inning, and Alex showed up near the end of the second. After the game, Richard, Laurie, Lela, Alex, Don, Mark, Jason, and Gerry thought of going to Rose City Diner, deferred out of respect for our lost leader Raul, and went instead to the Rite Spot.

The Homers' defense was spasmodically great, turning three double plays but committing some odd errors, most notably a wild, underhanded throw from shortstop to first. The best of the double plays (honorable mentions to Jason (unassisted) and Juan) was Mark's, who caught a deep fly ball to right in the last inning and then gunned down an indecisive runner who failed to return to first quickly enough. Laurie also had three put-outs on force plays at second base thanks to controlled underhanded tosses from Juan. Offensively, no one was strong enough to put a ball over the fence at Allendale Park, but Richard did get a home run, a little league grand slam in the second. However, almost everyone on the team is batting well.

The Homers have four games left, the last one being on September 9. Next week's game is on Monday again against Weird Science at MacDonald Park, which seems to be on Mountain Street between Lake and Hill. Because of the park's location, the post-game parade will proceed down Mountain, then up Hill to the northeast corner of Hill and Whitefield, where the home owners have graciously offered to feed and bathe us. Bring your towels and dinner napkins!
