April 29, 1993: Homers @ Goat Scouts

We had an excellent turnout yesterday. The batting order was Ron, Amy, Richard, Don C., Raul, Monica, Bob (stolen from a 10-K run), Dave, Jeff, Beth, Tim (back from the 15-day DL), Doug, Kelly, Rashmi, Eric, and Regina. Spectators included Jay, Holly, Martha Berg (the organizer of the 10-K run), and Don J, who showed up for pizza after the game.
    Homers 2 0 0 0 1 2 3 8
    Goat Scouts 3 0 0 1 6 1 x 11
Despite the score, it was an extremely pleasant and pretty well-played game for both sides. The back-breaker was the fifth inning when after the Homers had scored to make the game 4 to 3, the Goat Scouts scored 6 to pull away. We had at least three chances to end that inning early defensively, but overall we had a pretty good defensive game.

Richard got the first Homer home run of the year, a solo over the left fielder's head in the fifth inning. Jeff, playing right field, denied the Goat Scouts of a home run in the bottom half of that inning by cleverly misplaying the ball and letting the batter run full-steam until he ran out of gas in getting to third. Kelly, at third base, sacrificed her body and got the out at first on a ground ball that took a bad bounce and hit her in the chest. Eric got two hits in two at-bats in his first game as a Homer.

Our next game is Wednesday, May 5, Homers @ Cosmic Debris, field H6 at the NE corner of the Rose Bowl.
