Homers 3 0 0 2 3 0 0 8 Cosmic Debris 2 0 0 0 0 9 x 11The Homers played great defense until the fateful 6th inning, when the Cosmic Debris kept batting and batting and batting, scoring most, perhaps all, their runs with two outs. Former LAPD sergeant and present Homer field captain Jeff Osman blamed the loss on the no chokehold policy, which states that when the suspect resists defeat, the team that had been using the bats must choke and not hold on to the lead.
Don C. had a big batting day: a two-run home run in the first, a triple in the fourth, and another hard hit line-drive that looked like it could tie the game in the seventh but was instead caught in right-center to end the game. Kelly doubled over the left fielder earlier in the seventh and made a couple of good defensive plays at third base. The first was a short dribbler up the third base line which she charged and threw the runner out; the second, a ground ball which she cleverly let go through her legs to draw the runner from first into going to third, allowing Don C. to throw to her and tag him out. Doug got a couple of hits through the right side, making him probably the only Homer not to pull the ball, and Eric continued his torrid hitting with two more hits, leaving him 4 of 4 on the year. He might even bat higher in the order if he would show up on time.
On the down side, Regina injured both thighs while running out a foul ball. Good hustle, bad results.
Our next game is Thursday, May 13, MO Runs @ Homers, field H2 on the south side of the Rose Bowl. H2 is the best field at the Rose Bowl because it's level (unlike H6) and the sun isn't much of a factor. After next week, we'll be off the Rose Bowl.
