The batting order for the Homers was Ron (OF/P), Amy (OF), Richard (SS), Don C (OF), Tim (1B), Beth (3B/2B), Jeff (C/1B), Raul (P), Susie (2B/3B), Chris (OF/C), Laurie (2B), Jesus (OF), and Don J (OF), who arrived just as Amy left to play BASKETBALL (1 demerit). Spectating were Bill Verish and his friend Phillip, both of whom joined Ron, Beth, Richard, the Dons, Raul, and Laurie at the California Pizza Kitchen after the game.
Pole-Zero Bears 0 1 0 0 0 1 2 4 Homers 6 0 3 2 0 0 x 11Don hit a monstrous two-run home run to right in the third inning, the only Homer home run of the day. Jesus got a couple of intimidating foul balls that drove the left fielder back onto Woodbury. Beth got her breakthrough hit, a clean shot over the third baseman in the first inning with two outs and only two runs in at that point. Defensive play of the day went to Ron in right center field who made a running catch below the knees while at a full sprint to strand a couple of runners. DPOTD II went to Beth at third base who, with one out and runners on first and second, caught a hard ground ball hit to her left then went back and got the force at third. The Homers also turned two double plays: Tim made a nice catch of a hard line-drive at first base, then threw to Richard to double off the runner at second, and Richard caught a line drive/pop-up behind third base and threw to Beth to double off the runner at third. What a game, what a game!
Next week's game is at John Muir High School again on Wednesday, June 23, Prime Time @ Homers. Be warned: their shortstop, if he's recovered from his broken leg, is twice as good as any of ours.
