July 19, 1993: Wild Turkeys @ Homers

Once again the Homers came through with a big inning, with most runs coming with two outs, and coasted the rest of the way in a 16 to 13 victory. The team record now stands at .600 with 6 wins, 4 losses and 1 ignored forfeit. The batting order for the Homers was Doug (3B/C), Tim (1B/3B), Don C (OF/1B), Amy (LCF), Richard (SS), Jeff (C/1B), Jesus (LF/SS), Monica (RF/2B), Ron (P/OF), Raul (OF/P), Don J (OF/P), Laurie (2B/RF), Russ (RCF), and Rashmi (2B). Dave, reappearing with Rashmi, planted himself on the bench, kept score, and joined Holly as our faithful fans. Don Jacob gets credit for choosing the place to eat afterward (Georgees), and Rashmi and Dave get extra credit for hosting everybodyy after picking up food from Georgees. Beneficiaries, not including the previous three, included Doug, Monica, Holly, Don C, Ron, Raul, and Laurie.

Home run honors go to the two big boys on the team: Don C, with a demoralizing shot in the big second off the concrete in right field that was first declared a ground-rule double, and Jesus, with a two-run Jesus-like shot to left over everybody to clinch the game in the fifth.. In the eleven-run inning, Jesus and Monica (and Ron?) each got two hits, with Raul also getting a high triple over the right fielder. Defensively, this was not a spectacular game although Amy made a couple of nice catches in the outfield and Monica got a few putouts at second base.

Next week's game is Monday against our traditional friendly rivals, the Maulers, at Pasadena High School. Nobody should start a brawl, for we'll probably end up playing them again in the final week. We are playing great ball right now, so we should be able to break our losing streak against them.
