August 25, 1993: Homers @ Crawdads

The Homers, inspired by the return of their manager, played very solidly to beat the Crawdads 13 to 5 and improve their record to 7 wins, 5 losses, 1 tie, and 2 forfeits. 10 of the Homers's runs came from 4 home runs. The batting order for the Homers, determined mainly by order of appearance, was Scott (P), Jeff (C), Don C (LF), Susie (2B), Richard (SS/1B), Chris (RCF), Tim (1B/SS), Amy (RF), Ron (LCF), and Beth (3B). This game actually started at 5:40, which has got to be a C league record, and ended right around 7:00. Adjourning for pizza after the game at Round Table were Scott, Jeff, Don, Richard, Amy, and Ron.
    Homers 6 0 0 0 1 6 0 13
    Crawdads 0 4 0 0 0 0 1 5
Four of the Homers's runs in the first inning came off a grand slam by Richard, while all six of the runs in the sixth came off home runs, a two-run shot by Ron followed by a three-run shot by Don and a solo from Richard. It was a good day for batting as the Homers went through the order four times, with everyone contributing in some way, while the Crawdads barely got through twice. Defensive player of the day was Scott, who caught at least two line drives right up his middle and assisted on quite a few plays as well. Ron fell short on his bid to win POTD honors despite making a number of spectacular catches on fairly routine fly balls.

Our last game of the season is Wednesday, September 1, against the Maulers at John Muir High School on the fields north of Montana. This should be a great way to end the season, notwithstanding the post-game dinner that Jeff is going to treat the winners to afterwards.
