May 4, 1994: Homers @ DeltaStars

Version 4.0 of the Homers opened to resounding reviews in a 14-to-4 crushing of the Delta Stars. The Homers put the big hurt on the Delta Stars in the third by scoring 13 and coasted the rest of the way despite being handicapped by the mercy rule in every inning on. Starting for the Homers were Angela (2B), Don C (LF), Mark Horn (P), Chris (RCF), Susie (RF), Jeff (C), Richard (SS/P), Tim (LCF/SS/1B), Beth (3B), and Doug (1B). Ed (C/1B) and Ron (LCF) showed up a little late and substituted in. Amy, her dog Sarah, and her boyfriend Bruce showed up to spectate despite Amy's mysterious injury on her right shin (it looked like a big hickey to me). After the game Don, Jeff, Richard, Tim, Ron, Amy, and Bruce made an obligatory appearance at Round Table, where Don and Ron coughed up their team fees.

This game featured the regular season debuts of the two newest Homers, Angela and Ed. Angela ended the game with a smooth throw from second to first, and Ed ended his appearance with ... well ... Onwards! Beth earned the game ball this week by getting at least three hits and three putouts, one of which, a hard line drive that seemed bound to score at least the runner from second, staved off a big inning. Don provided the only legitimate extra-base hit of the game, a triple to right center, although Ron got a three-run little-league home run to close the big third inning. Mark pitched excellently, and Susie made a big catch on a deep fly to right.

Our next game is Thursday, May 12, against our traditional rivals, the Maulers, at Pasadena High School. In case you don't know, get there by going north on Altadena Dr from the 210 or Orange Grove, make a right on Cooley (just past the NW corner of Victory Park) which turns left onto Rose. The field is on the east side of Rose.
