May 19, 1994: Pole Zero Bears @ Homers

The Homers crushed the Pole Zero Bears, 30 to 6, in a game in which the Homers made only two outs after the 4th inning. The lineup for the bashers was Scott (1B), Ron (LCF), Richard (LF), Susie (2B), Don F (welcome! C), Jeff, Mark (P), Amy (RCF), Chris (RF), Tim (SS), Doug, Angela (3B), Laurie, and Brian. Monica, Holly, and Sarah showed their faith by coming out to watch. Dinner afterwards was at Fuddruckers with Scott, Ron, Richard, Jeff, Amy, Tim, Doug, Laurie, Monica, and Holly.

The PZBs are a bery, bery baaaaad team. They had at least two French-speaking players, who each failed to run after hitting a ground ball. The Americans were not much better, especially during the fifth inning, which simply would not end as the Homers reached the first mercy rule and then gave up a second out upon reaching +20. Then despite having only one out in the sixth, the Homers still scored 5. Ouch.

Play of the day goes to the froggy PZB pitcher in the sixth inning, who got perhaps 20% of his pitches close to the plate. We got some hits off of him anyway and had a runner at third when the batter (Brian? Doug?) hit a hard ground ball up the middle that struck him on the foot and bounced about 15 feet up into the air. The shortstop got underneath the ball about five feet behind the pitcher, caught it, threw home to try to get the runner from third, but instead plunked the pitcher on the side of the head.

Richard and Scott each hit three run home runs, and Brian got a solo shot. The other highlights all blended together and were rendered indistinguishable.

Our next game is Tuesday, May 31, against Foxes and Hounds at John Muir High School. The last memo from the C league managers was that this game was to be played on the field north of Montana.
