May 31, 1994: Foxes and Hounds @ Homers

In a first for a JPL C league softball team, the Homers have initiated a lawsuit against the devil himself. The Homers, claiming bad faith on the part of Mr. Mephisto, hope to regain their souls, exchanged for an 11 to 8 victory over Foxes and Hounds. Field manager Jeff Osman: "I think it's pretty clear to all parties involved that had we known that the manager of Foxes and Hounds was the devil himself disguised as an asshole, we would not have signed the contract." He then went on to cite similar contracts dismissed in court where the devil, in mortal disguise, acted obnoxiously and/or insanely to coerce innocent victims into selling their souls, namely R. Chen v. R. H. (case decided 02/94) and L. Chen v. L. Poffenberger (case in progress).

"Even if we lose the lawsuit, it was still worth it," declared Mr. Osman. The Homers put together two medium-sized innings and turned a 7 to 1 deficit into a 10 to 8 lead. The Homers began the game with 9.5 players until Russ, Laurie, and Brian showed up to replace Monica in the field. The full lineup was Scott (LF), Jeff (1B), Amy (CF), Ron (P), Richard (SS), Beth (3B), Doug (RF), Angela (2B), Monica (C), Russ, Laurie, and Brian. Holly, Lisa Hammer, and Chili spectated. Afterwards, Scott, Jeff, Ron, Richard, Laurie, Brian, and Lisa made the traditional pilgrimmage to Round Table.

    Foxes and Hounds 0 5 2 1 0 0 0 8

Scott led off the game for the Homers with a home run, the only one for the Homers. However, the game ball goes to Monica for filling in despite being 6 (7?) months pregnant. Honorable mention goes to Laurie for taking one in the neck and upper chest for the team, knocking the wind out of her. How the ball got there, no one seems to remember.

Our next game is Tuesday, June 7, against the Roving Marauders at Pasadena High School.
