June 7, 1994: Homers @ Roving Marauders

From: KELVIN::OSMAN

The publishers of the Homers Report have recently received several complaints regarding our recent game reports. These complaints included such items as late delivery of the game reports, lack of understanding of some obscure references made in those reports, and the general mean spiritedness of certain reports. In our quest to maintain the fine journalistic standards of this publication, it has been decided to temporarily try a new editor for this week's Homers Report.

Unfortunately, our search for a temporary editor of the Homers Report has not gone well. We first approached that famous journalistic contributor to countless Internet News groups, Ron Baalke. Ron agreed to do it, but only if he could change the name to the Homer Page, write the report using MOSAIC, and publish it on the World Wide Web. The publishers felt this sudden infusion of new technology might be as bad for some of our loyal readers as some of the obscure references found in the recent Homers Reports. Our next candidate was Laurie Chen, but she insisted on writing it Chinese. The publishers again felt that this would severly limit our readership, and thus our advertising revenues. The final proposal was to just write an anonymous report, but JPL Deputy Director Larry Dumas recently banned anonymous posting in both the JPL Forum and the Homers Report. As a result of this futile search for a temporary editor, our loyal readers are stuck with me. Now on with our kinder, gentler report.

The Homers were victorious once again this week, bringing their season record to an impressive 4 wins and 1 loss. This weeks victims were the Roving Marauders.

     Homers              3   0   1   5   0   8   3    20
     Roving Marauders    2   1   2   2   4   0   4    15
The game started late due to the late arrival of most of the Marauders and the even later arrival of the equipment. Fortunately, the days are long enough right now for games to last until 8:00 pm if needed. This week it was needed. The line-up for the Homers was: Scott (P/C), Ron (OF/P), Beth (3B), Amy (OF/3B), Don C. (OF), Jeff (C/OF/1B), Jesus (OF), Angela (2B/3B), Richard (SS/1B), Tim (1B/SS), Charlene (OF/2B) [Welcome to our newest player. Richard wants everyone to know that he takes full credit for recruiting her.], Doug (C/OF), and Laurie (2B).

The offensive highlights of the game include home runs by Richard (2), Jesus (the furthest hit ball so far this year!), and Tim. Don continued his streak of triples with two more (although one of them could have been stretched into a home run!). The defensive highlights of the game included the fact that for the most part the defense stayed awake during some rather sloooooow parts of the game, and that Richard did not hit anyone on his own team with a wild throw (way to go, keep up the good work).

The Homers Report also feels it necessary to give an update on the DL (that is disabled list for those of you not up on all of this fancy softball lingo). Don F. reports he hurt his knee in our game three weeks ago, and may be taking the rest of the season of for rehab. Ed has apparently missed the last several games due to a sore back. We hope to have him back soon (sorry, bad pun).

Our next game is Wednesday June 15 versus the Cosmik Debris. The game will be at Pasadena High School. Angela, Amy, and Beth have already said they probably will not be at the game so we will need to make sure that the rest of our female players are there. See you then.
