July 6, 1994: Homers @ Goat Scouts

From: KELVIN::MORGAN

In a game that involved a tour of Pasadena softball fields and a great amount of charity on the part of the HOMERS in the last inning, the HOMERS defeated the Goat Scouts by a score of 15-14. The line score was:

    HOMERS        3  7  0  0  1  4     15
    Goat Scouts   2  2  4  0  0  6     14
Starting for the HOMERS were: Don (of), Jeff (1b/c), Doug (c/of/3b), Beth (3b), Richard (1b/ss), Ron (p), Laurie (2b), Jesus (of), Amy (of), Russ (of), Tim (ss/1b), Angela (3b/of). Also present as HOMER rooters were two unknown, though not suspicious looking, men (who were these guys?).

The game began at the specified field in Victory Park, but was soon evicted in preference to a dog obedience school. The HOMERS and Goat Scouts re-established the field on an apparently unused diamond to the West, only to be told that the Pasadena Little League had a permit for the field and would not let anyone use it, even if they weren't using it. After some discussion, and a strange Goat voting ritual, the teams moved the field again to the D-league field at Pasadena High School. Upon arrival, a yellow card was issued by the Pasadena High School soccer coach, who would not permit the game to re-start until 7 PM. Finally, at the stroke of 7, the game was re-started.

With the cooperation of both teams, the game went very quickly and 7 full innings were played. The HOMERS coasted on their early lead and went into the bottom of the seventh with what looked like an insurmountable 7 run lead. However a number of HOMERS attempted to attone for past sins by providing some charity to the Goat Scouts. A total of at least six outs could have been recorded in the inning. Amongst the charitable HOMERS were Amy, Laurie, Ron, and Jeff - who made a strong throw to Amy in right field in a vain attempt to get a runner out at first base. Fortunately, with the tying run at third and the winning run at first, the HOMERS returned to their normal, cruel ways and got the last two outs for the win.

Taters were crushed by Jesus and Richard.

The next game is tonight (Thursday) against the Cosmic Debris. Unless you receive E-mail indicating otherwise, meet at the Victory Park field where we started last night (which is field that was identifed in Richard's E-mail of yesterday).
