July 27, 1994: LA Radars @ Homers

In an 8-on-8 then a 9-on-9 game, the Homers proved to be much too much for the LA Radars by defeating them 19 to 7. Stat of the day: the Homers batted only 6 times, 4 of those with the mercy rule in effect, which means that the Homers committed only 14 outs the entire game.
    LA Radars 1 0 1 5 0 0 0 7
    Homers 3 5 4 5 0 2 x 19
Starting for the Homers were Scott (3B), Don (CF), Jeff (1B), Amy (RF), Richard (SS), Ron (P), Beth (3B), Jesus (LF), and Laurie (2B). Ed and Greg showed to provide some cuteness and something else (counter respectively, of course), and Tim showed up to play shortstop in the last inning to truly break the Radars' spirits. Oh, yeah, then there was Amy's boyfriend Bruce, who joined Amy, Richard, Laurie, Don, and Jeff at a rotisserie chicken restaurant after the game.

Although Amy and Richard set the tone for the game by hitting a triple and a home-run consecutively in the first, Don came up with the big blow, a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth to put the mercy rule back on the Radars after they had raised their hopes with five runs in the top of the inning. Jesus got a solo home run in the sixth. Nevertheless, the game ball goes to Laurie, who had her first ever three-hit day. There were no exceptional defensive plays, although Scott, with runners on first and third with one out, speared a line drive hit back through the middle and double off the runner at first.

Our next game is Monday, August 1, Homers @ Turbo Jello at Pasadena High School. Let's revert back to trash talkers and say that we ought to win this one by at least a touchdown, provided we have enough players. Richard, Amy and Jesus have a B league game at 5:30 while Tim has one at 6:50 (really, Tim, and your game the week after is at 6:50 again).
