August 18, 1994: Homers @ Voodoo Toad Fury

From: KELVIN::OSMAN "Jeff Osman" 19-AUG-1994 18:07:44.98

The high flying Homers were brought back down to earth after a tough loss to the dreaded Voodoo Toad Fury yesterday. The Toads may have lost some of their warts (no cigars this year, and they seemed to have better taste in their choce of music), but they still remain a tough team to beat.

    Homers           1  4  0  2  1  8  0   16
    Voodo Toad Fury  2  0  6  1  1  6  1   17
Starting for the Homers were Jeff (1b/c/of), Scott (p/of), Eric (ss/of), Martha (3b), Ron (of/p), Don (of), Tim (of/ss), Laurie (of), Ed (c/1b), Richard (of/ss/1b), Doug S. (c/p), Monica (2b), and Doug C. (of/c/bs [babysitter]). The Homers also had a cheering section consisting of Holly, Greg, and making his Homer debut Alan Douglas (Clarence Thomas) Clark.

Special acknowledgements go to Eric, Martha, and Doug S. from the Deep Space Cadets for helping us out (It seems only fair after all the times they have borrowed Richard). Ed for returning from the DL. Monica also for returning from the DL (although I'm not sure that the DL is the right designation for pregnancy). Richard also gets special credit for taking on the job of field manager and line-up specialist and keeping everyone happy with their playing time (I think he did a fine job, and deserves to have that responsibility from now on. Of course, I would have nothing personal to gain from that.)

Offensive highlights were hard to come by for this report. Richard had the only "home run" on a catchable fly ball that wasn't caught, once again demonstrating what a wonderful asset speed is. The rest of the Homers did put on an impressive 5th inning, batting arround and scoring 8 runs on a series on solid singles and good base running.

Defensively there were a few more things to cheer. Eric made several good stops at short, while Tim had a couple impressive running catches in the outfield. Play of the game, however, goes to Ed and Doug for a nice throw from first and a great tag at the plate to get a runner trying to score.

The highlight of the day, however, had to be when the entire Homers team and cheering section all showed up for the post game wake at Robins. A new Homer record for attendence at one of these affairs. (Does it take a loss to bring this team together?) While at Robins the waitress came up with the solution to the Homers troubles by providing rally caps to turn the Homers fortunes around. Holly and Greg deserve special commendation for having the most adult behavior at the entire table. I'm not sure that Doug and Monica, and Ed will ever want us to serve as examples of good table manners for their children again.

Next week's game is Monday at Allendale Park against the Gravity Fielders. We are going to be a little short handed, so please try to make it. Already on the missing list are Richard, Jesus, Amy, Doug, Monica, and Ed.

[Editor's note: After reading over this report, it has become obvious there is a serious lack of humor present in this Homers report. The editors of the Homers report apologize, and are taking steps to return the Homers report to its former levels of journalistic excellence. In fact we are already actively searching for a new reporter for next week's report. All volunteers will be considered. Thank you.]
