The Gravity Fielders got sucked into a black hole named Homer last night by a score of 20 to 8. The Homers were able to quickly break the attraction of the Gravity Fielders, never trailing after the first inning. The line score was:
Gravity Fielders 3 1 0 2 1 0 1 8 Homers 8 5 4 0 2 1 x 20The Homers had the welcomed support of three talented players from other C-league teams. Martha and Doug from the Deep Space Cadets, and Karen from the Roving Marauders. Thanks for coming out! - the Homer managerial staff is in the process of preparing offer sheets for each you for next season (hold out for something more than free soda!). The Homer lineup consisted of Don (of), Scott (of/1b/p), Jeff (1b/c/of), Martha (3b/of), Tim (ss/1b), Ron (of/p), Doug (p/c/3b), Laurie (2b/c), Karen (2b/p/3b), Richard (of/p/ss).
Notable offensive activity came from Don with a 2 run homer, Scott with a 2 run ground-rule triple (which still hasn't hit the ground), Laurie with a sharp single to the left side, and Richard for calling Jeff a wimp. The Homers also developed a new base coaching philosophy, "Go if you want to". This new strategy relieves the base coaches of much of the stress associated with deciding whether or not to send runners.
Defensively, the Homers allowed numerous infield errors in the early innings, many of which seemed to involve the field manager. This same manager, however, managed to snag two outfield flies with no trouble at all.
Most of the Homers gravitated to Roundtable afterwards for a victory celebration, where Don refused to model his newly acquired sunburn-striped feet.
The next Homer victory will be Thursday (9/1) at Allendale Yards against those hated Maulers. Just a reminder, the Maulers are responsible for one of the three Homer losses this year - let's show them how much we appreciate that. Please let Jeff or Richard know if you will not be able to make it.
