September 1, 1994: Homers @ Maulers

In a frenzy of retaliation, the Homers avenged one of their three losses this year by defeating the Maulers by a score of 23-9. The Homers openned the game with a Mercy Rule outburst in the top of the first, leaving no doubt that it was payback time. The line score was:

    Homers 10 5 0 0 1 3 4 23
    Maulers 2 1 2 2 1 0 1 9
The Homers lineup consisted of: Don (of/c), Jeff (c/1b/baby), Karen (2b/3b, Hi Hon), Tim (of/ss/1b/c), Richard (ss/1b/p/3b), Amy (3b/of), Doug (of/baby), Jesus (of), Laurie (of/2b/c), Brian (of/c/3b), Ron (p/c/3b), Monica (baby/of/2b), and Scott (baby). Booster support and entertainment were provided by Holly and Alan.

Offensively, only Don was able to connect for a homer. Triples were belted by Tim (2), Don, and Richard. Richard's ground rule triple (which would have been a homer had someone not robbed him by planting a tree in left field 40 years ago) was made somewhat sweeter by the Mauler left fielder who rifled the ball into the back of his shortstop. Also, Ron had a triple but the editors aren't going to mention it since last week's Homer report failed to chastise him for being faked out of his jock strap by the Gravity Fielders while running to second base.

Defensively, the Homers turned a triple play and generally toyed with the Maulers.

The post-game banquet was held at Los Tacos (after an abortive attempt to seat 12 people in a timely manner at Crown City Brewery). Attending the celebration were: Richard, Laurie, Jeff, Don, Doug, Monica (and Holly and Alan), Amy, Karen, and Scott. Joining the Homers were Mary and Robb from the Maulers. (For you Los Tacos fans, there is another one at the southeast corner of Huntington Drive and Rosemead Boulevard in San Gabriel - promotional considerations have been provided to the author for the preceding blatent commercial announcement.)

The next game will be the last one for the 1994 Homers, as they take on Prime Time, who in addition to running an airport shuttle company have been one of the best teams in the league for the past three or four years. The game is on Wednesday (9/7) at Allendale. Please let Jeff or Richard know if you will not be attending.
