September 7, 1994: Prime Time @ Homers

The Homers succeeded in catching as much of the summer sun as possible, but there wasn't enough as the game was suspended due to darkness with the Homers rallying to catch Prime Time in the sixth inning. The loss ends the Homers's season at 13 wins, 4 losses, a very good record, of which we should all be proud.
    Prime Time 5 6 1 2 3 5 22
    Homers 3 6 4 0 1 4 18

game ended with one out in the bottom of the sixth
The Homers lineup consisted of Scott (P), Don (1B/C), Amy (LF/CF), Jeff (CF/C/1B), Tim (SS), Monica (2B/RF/baby), Doug (RF/baby), Ron (3B), Laurie (rover/RF), and Richard (CF/LF). Holly and Alan cheered on their parents. Ron and Richard arrived late (6:00 p.m.), but strangely the game was only in the top of the 1st inning.

Monica starred in this game by driving in 4 runs during her first two at bats, picking up another single in her next plate appearance, making a nice catch of a hard hit line drive to RF, and making an even nicer celebration dance after the catch although there were two runners on base and one out left in the inning. Ron and Don also pounded the ball but were hurt by the ground rules, which made deep home runs to right field impossible. Doug hit the only Homer home run of the day, a hard shot that died in the right field grass in the last inning, saving a team streak of hitting at least one home run in every game this season.

Defensively, besides the catch-and-dance, the two best plays belonged to Jeff, who waited until the last game to discover flexibility, thanks to throws from Richard in left field (you're welcome). On the first, he went far to his right, caught the throw, and hustled back to tag out the batter, who had rounded first a bit too far and fast and had slipped. On the second, Jeff skied as high as he possibly could to come down with the ball - perhaps you'll have to take my word for it or really let your imagination go.

Scott, Jeff, Ron, Don, Laurie, and Richard attended the final 1994 Homer dinner, held at Crown City. However, there will be a Homer party some time in the future, definitely before the next season starts.
