The official opener of the softball season went much like the unofficial opener with a Homeric loss. Prime Time, the team that beat the Homers in last year's finale, put the hurt on the Homers early and coasted through the final five innings.

    Homers 2 1 1 0 0 0 1 5
    Prime Time 9 4 0 0 0 1 x 14
Playing for the Homers were Jeff (C/1B), Richard (OF/P), Ron (P/OF), Monica (2B/babysitter), Don C (OF), Tim (SS), Holly S (3B), Doug (1B/babysitter), Amy (OF/deathbed), Laurie (2B/C), and Holly/Allen (babysittees). Jeff, Richard, Ron, Tim, Don, and Laurie stayed around for some needed batting practice after the game, with all but Tim putting the transitive hurt on Souplantation afterward.

On the positive side, this game was the Homer debut for Holly Schmidt, who played a solid third base and crushed a few balls that unfortunately fell between the gaps. Richard got the first Homer home run of the year on a semi-legitimate jobber in the first with Jeff on base, and Tim hit a solo in the second and a good double later. Defensively, Tim made at least one good relay to Jeff to get a runner at home.

Next week is NOT a bye week. C league was able to secure another field, so we'll play next Wednesday, April 26, at Farnsworth Park, which is at the top of Lake, past all traffic lights. If you're coming from lab, go east on Altadena outside of the East gate. I'll pass along more information as I get it.
