Think back to a time in LA when riots were fading memories linked to the '60's, Alan Cranston was still a senator from California, and Ron, Amy, Don C, Doug, Monica, Tim, and most current Homers had yet to play a game for the Homers. The year was 1992, and that was the last time Jeff Osman missed a regular season Homers game.
Despite the absence of the esteemed field manager, the Homers beat the LA Radars 32 to 5. Afterwards, 26 people showed up for dinner at the Chronicle to be entertained by keynote speaker Cal Ripken. And, of course, Captain O'Grady made his way out of Serbian-held territory in Bosnia, sustained by bugs, rainwater, and faith in the Homers.
Homers 1 8 4 5 0 0 1 19 LA Radars 3 3 1 0 1 0 1 9The Radars had only seven players, so Tim was sent over after winning his own game of Red Rover, Red Rover. The starting lineup for the Homers was Scott (P/LCF/C), Richard (SS/C/P/1B), Dave (RF), Amy (RCF), Ron (LF/toast/LCF), Robb (LCF/P/C/1B), Phil (1B/C), Monica (2B), Doug (father/1B), Kevin (C/SS), and Holly (3B). Holly/Alan spectated and made their babysitter very, very glad to be single. Sara and Mickey declared lots of territory to be their own. Robb, Phil, Ron, and Richard made their way to Islands to talk conspiracy theories before the Chronicle dinner.
Offensively, Richard caught Ron in the chase for the title of Mr. Homer 1995 with his fourth and fifth of the year. Of course, the tie-breaker belongs to Richard for also having hit one in the pre-season game. Doug had his inside-out stroke to right-center working. Defensively, the Homers had the left-side Schmidt stoppers, and for an inning the right-side Clark clappers (1 for on, 2 for off) joined them.
Our next game is Thursday, June 15, at field 1 of Pasadena High School with its short left-field fence against the Deep Space Cadets, Richard's other team. The Deep Space Cadets is chronically short of players, so beware of the pre-game I Spy.
