July 6, 1995, 7:00 pm, in a scene all too familiar to Southland residents, moving vans carried away the heart and soul of another community. The Homers, following on the trail blazed by the Rams and the Raiders, left East Pasadena for the greener pastures of the Rose Bowl. Surprisingly, at least one local resident, speaking only on condition of anonymity, seemed glad to see the Homers leave: "I'd had it with all these softballs flying onto and over my property every time the Homers played." It remains to be seen how the locals will react to the latest trend of motorcyclists sporting laptops.

In the farewell, the Homers hammered the Deep Space Cadets, Richard's other C league team.

    Deep Space Cadets 0 0 0 0 2 0 0 2
    Homers 4 4 6 0 7 0 x 21
Starting for the Homers were Richard (SS/1B/P/RF), Jeff (C/OF), Ron (OF/P), Holly (3B), Dave (2B), Scott (P/1B), Robb (1B/SS/P), Barbara (R), Don (LF), and Tim (CF/SS). Phil (C/RF/CF) showed up around the 4th inning while Mary (2B) came an inning later. Afterwards, Homers and Cadets came together in peace at California Pizza Kitchen with Dave, Robb, Jeff, Richard, Mary, Ron, and Don from the good guys and Jim, Paula, Todd, and Ophelia from the looosing team.

The Homers simply dominated this game. If not for a pair of infield throwing errors, the Homers would have had their first shutout. As it was, the Cadets did not quite make it twice through their lineup. Good defense all around.

The Homers finally played like the Homers by hitting a season-high seven home runs. Ron hit the first to pull ahead of Richard in the season-long race 7 to 6. Holly hit two, both rockets to left field, both using the tax-free TPS 34/30. Don got his two to right, with one easily clearing the fence. Scott also hit two, the first of which traveled 60 feet on the ground to third base and 180 feet in the air on overthrows; in fact, the team poll to decide whether to call it a home run was 4 to 3 against (Holly's "you call THAT a home run?" counted as a no), but the Homers Report has never claimed to be a democratic practice.

A few of us are getting together Sunday at 3:00 pm at Pasadena High School to take batting practice. All comers welcome.

Our next game is Thursday, July 13, against Propulsion Army on field H2 of the Rose Bowl. All games at the Rose Bowl are played on the large, grassy field south of the stadium. Field H2 is on the south end of that field, with home plate facing east.
