Perhaps influenced a bit too much by recent events in Las Vegas, the Homers went into the game against Plan 9 expecting to face some big dumb Irish kid but found themselves taking blow after blow from Rocky Balboa. No one stopped this match though, as the Homers played quickly to get all seven opportunities to bat before dusk, to no avail.
Plan 9 0 3 2 4 4 0 0 13 Homers 3 0 0 2 3 0 2 10The Homers should win the C league award for best turnout over the year, especially after getting 15 for a game in mid-August. The not-so-good guys were Jeff (OF/1B), Dave (C/OF/3B), Robb (3B/SS/P/1B), Monica (2B/OF), Richard (SS/P), Don (OF), Amy (OF), Scott (OF/SS/3B), Doug (1B/C), Sue (2B/C), Ron (P/3B/OF), Evora (1B/3B), Phil (OF/C), Beth (C/OF/2B), and Tim (OF/SS). Holly and Alan gave the Homers some life in the first few innings and stayed cute throughout. Afterwards, Sue, Tim, Scott, Jeff, Ron, Doug, Alan, Holly, Monica, Richard, and Phil hit Crown City Brewery for some commiseration.
The Homers got some tough play out of second base. After taking a hard-hit ball off her left knee that left indentations of the stitches, Sue refused to stay down and almost got her first assist of the season on another hard grounder. Monica made a great adjustment off a bad hop on a grounder hit up the middle to stop the ball and later picked up an assist. And Beth made a nice stop to get the force at second in an otherwise ugly fifth inning. Offensively, Ron hit a three-run home run in the fifth, and Don hit a two-run home run in the seventh to close out the scoring.
We have one, possibly two games next week. The definite game is Wednesday, August 30, against Voodoo Toad Fury, who crushed us a couple of weeks ago on field H3. Eye of the Tiger, Eye of the Tiger. The probable game is Thursday, August 31, against the Roving Marauders on field H2.
