As C league '95 winds down, individual Homers are finding other outlets for the considerable energies previously expended on softball. This is partly a response to all those opponents who asked them to get a life. Meanwhile, the Homers lost for the third time this season to the Voodoo Toad Fury, this time by a respectable score.
    Homers 1 0 0 0 2 2 0 5
    Voodoo Toad Fury 0 3 2 3 0 0 x 8
The Homers got another excellent turnout, and this during the last week of the season. This team is probably in the top two (with the Wild Turkeys) for participation, the true measure of quality for a C league team. Playing for the Homers were Jeff (C/1B), Richard (SS), Don (LF), Monica (R/2B), Ron (CF/P), Doug (C/1B/RF), Robb (P/3B), Sue (2B/C), Tim (1B/SS/LF/LCF), Phil (CF), Dave (3B/CF), Amy (RF/RCF), Mary (2B/R), and Evora (3B/1B). Holly provided some inspiration, and Alan provided some lubrication. A special mention goes out to Monica, who in her personal season finale, baked cookies for the good guys. 75% of the team hit Los Tacos after the game: Doug, Monica, Holly, Alan, Jeff, Tim, Ron, Don, Phil, Robb, Sue, and Richard.

This game will not be remembered for Homer offense. The Homers got only 2 hits through the first 4 innings and not many more thereafter. Richard hit two solo home runs in his first two at-bats, and Don followed Richard's second with a solo shot of his own, leaving him one ahead of Richard and two ahead of Ron going into the season finale tomorrow. Amy was the only other batter to get two hits, as only the first two homer batters batted three times. Team batting average: .300 (ugh), not good for softball.

Defensively, the Homers played well against the solid hitting of Voodoo. Ron speared a hard hit liner while pitching, as did Robb later to double a runner off first. Tim got a rare outfield assist as he threw out Lori Shiraishi trying to tag up from first base on a fly to medium center. Mary also made a nice catch from the rover position.

The season finale is tomorrow (Thursday) against the Roving Marooders on field H2. Knowing our opponents, I recommend all interested players, e.g. Jim Shell, to show up since we'll probably be able to count all of them on one hand, e.g. Jim Abbott's right hand.
