Homers 0 2 4 3 4 5 1 19 Vas-Y Bears 3 0 3 2 0 0 0 8Well, the game was a success softball-wise, but attendance was lower than expected. The batting order for the Homers: Ellen (RF/C), Jeff (1B/C), Dave (C/LF/RF/SS), Scott (SS/P), Martha (3B/R), Allan (LF/C), Tim (CF/SS/1B), Ron (P/CF), Sue (2B), and Holly (3B). Phil and Richard were traded for players to be named later, with Phil playing a solid third base and Richard catching. The Runkles, in their successful Homer debut, provided all the spectators: Taylor, Hannah, and their dog Susie. However, they didn't make the post-game meal at Round Table, where Martha, Jeff, Sue, Ron, Scott, Tim, Phil, and Richard remade their acquaintance with Oscar.
The traditional picking of the three Homer stars is a difficult task because everyone played well, with at least one hit. Even the outs advanced or scored runners. Nevertheless, we don't believe in complete egalitarianism:
3) Dave Lim, whose key 2-out, 2-rbi double in the 4th put the Homers ahead for good 2) Ron Baalke, who hit the first Homer home run of '96 in the 2nd to put the Homers on the board 1) the Bears's pitcher, who threw nice, fat strikes all day longTim, besides hitting a 2-run homer later in the game, came up with the defensive play of the day when he stretched to his right to backhand a hard-hit line drive. Black and blue Sue took runner-up by taking another one for the team on the leg off a hard hit grounder, but recovered later in the day to get two assists at first. And Jeff dished some out for the Homers by coming off the base at first to catch a throw from Scott, tag out the runner, then talk some trash to the fallen victim.
Next week's game is Monday, April 29, against the Gravity Fielders on field H3, the southwest corner of the Rose Bowl. Before we take the field, let's huddle and break with the Homer cheer.
