Bad omen #2: Rick Pitino announced that he would not be leaving the University of Kentucky despite being offered partial ownership of the team and the positions of head coach and general manager. Pitino noted, "Ah, the Homers will be fine without me."
Bad omen #3: Earlier this week, the United States government, breaking with a longstanding tradition of not interfering in the internal affairs of allies, openly endorsed the Labor party in the Israeli elections. However, with Shimon Peres seemingly headed for defeat, President Clinton abandoned that cause and turned his attention back to domestic issues by giving up the points and placing 10 bucks on the Homers over the Feys.
Devil Rays 4 0 1 0 1 2 2 10 Homers 0 0 0 0 1 1 0 2One problem Pitino might have had with the Homers is its defensive rotation. Note the strictly egalitarian, non-merit-based management style that once again favors those who show up early.

Cheering on the good guys were Richard, Hannah/Taylor/Susie, Samantha/Isabelle, and Evora's daughter Marlo. Hitting Round Table for pizza afterward were Robb, Ellen, Glenn Johnson (taking a break from work, da geek), Martha, Ron, Sue, Tim, Jeff, Cheryl, Isabelle, Allan, Hannah, Taylor, Samantha, Amy, and Richard, where they met part-time Homer Karen Chan and her band of Merry Marauders.
As the score indicates, this was not a pretty game for the Homers, who barely made it twice through their order. In fact, only 10 Homers reached base safely as the Brays played solid, consistent defense. Ron finally put the Homers on the board in the fifth with a solo home run, and Tim scored the other Homer run in the sixth thanks to some aggressive baserunning and some Homer pride.
Defensively, the Homers dodged a lot of bullets by stranding quite a few runners on base. Scott made some good plays at pitcher in the first two innings, and Amy and Al made nice running catches to atone for earlier mistakes.
Next week's game is Thursday, June 6, against the Roving Marauders on field H3, which is in the southwest corner of the Rose Bowl field. The Marooders will presumably not have enough players until 6:30, so show up early to avoid being traded for a wad of chewing gum, used.
