17 June 1996: THz Freqs @ Homers

From: Sue Kientz

Some people notice the nice but warm weather, some people see only the smog, and SOME people, after a mere 42 hours, are already antsy that there hasn't been a Homer's Report posted. For those people, their day has come.

Look in your latest Webster's under "lopsided" and there you will find photos of Monday's game, when the Homers seriously tweaked the dials of the THz Freqs in a 23-4 unmodulated victory.

    THz Freqs 0 0 3 0 0 0 1 4
    Homers 4 2 9 0 6 2 x 23
The Homers had a large turnout of 14, and nearly everybody played around (the field, that is): Scott (SS/P/OF), Jeff (C/1B/OF), Ellen (2B/C/OF), Richard (P/SS/C), Ron (OF), David (OF/3B), Cheryl (OF/P/1B), Tim (OF/SS), Allan (1B/OF), Evora (3B/SS), Holly (3B/1B/OF), Sue (C/2B), Amy (OF/1B), and Mary (OF/2B). Rob also managed and coached. Hannah/Taylor, Belly/Oliver and Susie the pooch provided morale and canine support. After the game, Ron, Richard, Tim, Jeff, and Sue adjourned to Los Taco, where some bewailed the lack of beer and rest rooms (but the tacos were good).

The Homers lived up to their name, with Scott hitting a two-run home run, Ron a pair of two-run home runs along with a three-run homer, and Dave and Tim hitting solo home runs. Too bad we didn't have a camera, the sight of Ellen, Jeff (running for Richard), and Ron all crossing home plate within a foot of each other would have made a nice web page addition.

The game was never close and in desperation, the freaked Freqs made some interesting albeit strange plays, like back-to-back baserunning oddities where one runner went to second via right field and the next one, over the pitcher's mound. On the latter play, Sue waited patiently at second base, glove up, for Tim to finally decide whether he should throw to her or to pitcher Cheryl, who could have tagged him out as he looked for a base on the mound.

Homers are 7-2 at this, the halfway mark of the season. If you didn't know, Ron will tell you that many Homers are really hitting them out this year. For example, Ron Baalke (13), Scott Morgan (5) and David Lim (3) have already set or tied personal bests for home runs in a SEASON. Congrats and keep going!

Next week's game is Monday, June 24, against the Deep Space Cadets on field H5. Let's not get too cocky, but we did blast the DSCs into orbit in a 21-2 game last year (yes, Ron made me find that on the home page). That game, if you recall, almost became the Homer's first shutout except for a few throwing errors. See you then!
