Once again the whole world was caught up in the thrill of friendly, peaceful competition. The flame had been lit. The atheletes had entered the stadium. The pledges of fairness and sportsmanship had been sworn. After the pagentry of the opening ceremonies had been completed, it was time for the game(s) to begin. Yes, once again it was time for that annual battle between the Homers and the Goat Scouts. Unfortunately, due to some scheduling problems with some minor event happening in Atlanta this week, the usual media attention for this annual spectacle of athletic prowess failed to materialize. The competitors, however, didn't let the lack of international exposure dampen their enthusiasm for the game as the Homers tried to stage a mighty comeback. In the end, though, the Homers had to settle for the silver medal while the Goats took gold with a score of 6-12.

     Homers 1 0 1 0 0 0 4 6
     Goat Scouts 6 0 0 4 0 2 x 12
The judges gave the Homers a 9.5 for attendance this week compared to the perfect 10.0 last week. Playing for the Homers were:
  Scott OF OF SS 1B - 3B
Ron OF OF OF - OF P
  Cheryl 1B P 1B - OF OF
  Jeff C C 2B - OF OF
Richard P SS - OF SS SS
  Sue 2B 2B - 2B C C
Tim SS OF - SS OF OF
  Ellen OF - C C 2B 2B
  David OF - OF OF 1B -
  Holly 3B - OF OF 3B -
  Robb - 1B P P P -
  Evora - 3B 3B 3B - 1B
Allan - OF OF OF - OF
Due to continuing problems with the ACOG and their vaunted IBM information system the only spectators able to actually get tickets and make it through the traffic snarls for this major event were: Hannah, Taylor, Samantha, and Isabelle.

The unanimous choice of the judges for Homers offensive player of the game this week was Jeff who went 3 for 3 by taking advantage of the overly generous respect the Goats left fielder kept showing for his power. (Hey, if you don't like the choice you can write the next Homers Report!) Ron gets honorable mention for hitting the only Homers home run of the game. Other Homers who hit well this week were Ellen and David. (There may have been others too, but I am getting old and losing my short term memory. My apologies to anyone I forgot.)

Defensively there was more to cheer about it. Aside from the big first inning for the Goats the Homers defense was generally sharp. Plays of note included a sharp throw from Ron in short center field to Robb at first to get the batter, a similar throw from Richard in left center to Tim covering second to force a runner, and a deflection from Ron at pitcher to Richard at short who still managed to throw to Evora at first in time to get the runner.

After the medal ceremony had concluded the Homers retreated to the athletes' dining hall at Round Table to start getting themselves ready for their next event. Attending the dinner were (in no particular order): Ron, Cheryl, Jeff, Richard, Sue, Ellen, Holly, Robb, Allan, Hannah, Taylor, Samantha, Isabelle

The Homers next medal opportunity comes up on Monday against the Keystone Co-ops on field H2.
