Yes, the Homers began searching for a replacement for Cheryl, who is leaving to scout out spring training facilities in Arizona. Vaya con algun, mi amiga. She did hang around long enough to contribute to another Homer victory, 22 to 17 over the Crawdads.

After the game, Cheryl, Isabelle, Samantha, Jeff, Scott, Tony, Rich, Earl, Robb, Sheila, Sue, Ron, Tim and Richard (14 of 15!) headed over to Round Table in deference to the dead man walking and in respect of cheap beer.

The Homers almost let this one slip by, but a big sixth inning turned a four-run deficit into a six-run lead. Clutch hitting abounded as eight of those ten runs came with two outs. Home runs went to Scott, Ron (2), Tony, and Rich, the last of whom blew his shot for Homer immortality. Had he made an out instead, he would have set the Homer record for highest ratio of innings ended by one player at 4 of 6. "Fifty percent's nothing to burp at," declared Rich. Defensively, the play of the day goes unrewarded partially due to the spottiness of the grass. Scott did hustle after a ball that got away from him at first and then gunned down the overly ambitious runner at second. Sheila nicely picked up a short-hopped throw from the outfield to forcefully tag out a runner at second. Robb also nicely speared a line drive hit right back to the pitcher.

Next week's game is on Monday, June 2, on field H3 against Planet X, "the team that maimed Mary Wittman last year."
