17 June 1997: IR Sox 18, HOMERS 20

From: Sue Kientz

In the spirit of what is perhaps the earliest known Homer report,

Sing, goddess, the innings of JPL's Homers and their devastaton, which put pains thousandfold upon the IR Soxes, hurled in their multitudes to the House of Pancakes...
Yes, the Homers once again tasted victory, which was almost as sweet as the marinated barbecue meat Richard provided after the game. The heroes fought thusly:
    Homers 5 6 2 3 0 3 1 20
    IR Sox 3 6 2 0 2 1 4 18

It was a back and forth affair, with the Homer's keeping the lead the whole time, but the IR Sox were never far behind. Home runs were slugged (and sometimes legged!) by Richard, Tony (2), and Rich. Rich was unflagging at third base, turning two double plays -- awesome! Everyone got at least one hit, and many outs brought in runs (Woohoo!). For the first interleague game in Homer history (C league against D league), it was an exciting and controversial game (apparently in D league, overthrowing third doesn't mean the runner at third can go home. Go figure...).

The after Dinner was a wonderful barbecue coordinated by Richard, who also provided chips, salsa, salad, tortillas, and some great chicken and beef, all dripping with wonderful stuff. Scott had some sort of beverage that made everyone happy, Karen had cookies, and Sue brought guacamole that got some rave reviews. It was a fully-attended dinner, for once, and the weather was perfect and the light held. Thanks for the great idea, Scott and Richard! As the first Homer would relate,

When Dawn's sister Twilight showed with the rosy fingers
They put forth their hands to the good things that lay ready for them.
But when they had put away their desire for eating and drinking,
Jeff the Resourceful spoke to the feasters, saying,
"OK, so who's going to do the Homer report??"
We're now half-way through the season! Next week's game is on Thursday, June 26, on field H2 against the VOODOO TOAD FURY! We almost beat them last time, w/only SIX people!! Again, I say --
