22 July 1997: Goat Scouts 10, HOMERS 18

From: KELVIN::OSMAN "Jeff Osman" 23-JUL-1997 17:58:53.84

Maybe the HOMERS are getting complacent. Maybe the HOMERS are getting cocky. Maybe the HOMERS are getting bored. Or just maybe, the HOMERS need to get a little scared before they start playing up to their potential. Whatever it is, the HOMERS overcame a very weak first 4 innings to power to another come from behind victory over the Goat Scouts.

Spectators included Lance, Amy's 2 dogs (sorry I forget their names), and Kona our newest four legged fan who unlike the other HOMERS was hyper the first few innings, and then slept through the last few.

With Richard scouting for new HOMERS opponents in the planned World League of JPL Softball, the HOMERS offensive attack started slow. For the first time all season, the HOMERS failed to produce a single home run. In fact for the first 4 innings the HOMERS practically failed to produce any hits. That turned around well in the last 3 innings with every HOMER (with the exception of one nameless HOMER Manager) getting at least one hit. The strongest hitters of the day awards go to Rich Benesh and Amy Walsh for each going 3 for 3 in the last 3 innings.

Defensively it was a much more typical HOMERS game. In other words, we just had one bad inning. Defensive honors this week go to David Lim and Sheila Ganino for their outstanding catches in right and right-center field.

The after game dinner was another fine example of the creeping HOMER complacency, when Crown City Brewery was chosen beacause nobody was very enthusiastic about suggesting an alternative. Attending the dinner were Jeff, Scott, Sue, and Ron. The main topic of discussion (now that Richard is out of the country for 3 weeks) was how to redefine the various methods of assigning HOMERS points for the three important M. HOMER end of season awards. Keep your eye on the HOMER Page to see if Ron starts adjusting the stats in his favor.

Next week's game is on Monday at 5:30 versus the Wild Turkeys on field H3. Please let me know if you are not going to be there.
