18 August 1997: HOMERS 13, Cassini Grounders 9 (ff)

From: Scott C Morgan

For the second straight time, the Cassini Grounders forfeited to the mighty HOMERS due to lack of players. At game time, there were only 2 Grounders, whose numbers eventually swelled to 7, plus 1 spectator. In order to salvage the evening, HOMER co-manager Jeff Osman promptly traded HOMER co-manager Richard Chen to the other team for nothing now and nothing to be named later. Said manager Osman, "There was no way that I was going to trade Kona, the wonder pup. I think that both sides were satisfied with the exchange."

The HOMER ranks were composed of: Scott, Karen, Jeff, David, Annette, Rich, Sheila, Tony, Amy, and Robb. Defensive alignments were unavailable at press time. Spectators included Brian, Aaron, Barbara, and of course, Kona (who's namesake can be found at: http://www.public.usit.net/forrest/kona/). The box score:

     Grounders 2 2 0 2 0 0 3 9
     HOMERS 0 5 3 3 0 2 x 13
Defensive honors go Robb who jumped in to play catcher even with bowed tendons in both legs and managed to snare a Grounder foul ball for an out. Offensively, every HOMER got on base at least once. HOMERs were notched by Scott and one by Richard playing for the Grounders.

Dinner was held at Baja Fresh and attended by Karen, Jeff, Annette, Richard (who lost his soda along the way), Robb, and Scott. The first HOMER cocktail hour and Toad Taunting was held at Crown City Brewery after dinner and was attended by Robb and Scott.

The next game is tonight on field H3 against Planet X, the only team to beat the HOMERs in an official game this year. An appearance by Mary Wittman and Richard's last Dr. Pepper is anticipated.
