28 August 1997: HOMERS 12, Voodoo Toad Fury 9 (ff)

The Homers concluded their 1997 season with the rubber match of a three-game series against the VoodToduries. In game 1's forfeit, the Homers showed themselves to be the Stooges as Jeff, Scott, and Richard assumed the game was canceled and left before anyone else arrived. In game 2, the Homers emulated the 1994 Congressional Republicans in ending the 6-year long losing streak. But in game 3, it was Voodoo who found their appropriate metaphor, the Klingons:

That's right - the Homers gave the Toads their second thrashing in as many tries, 12 to 9, despite lending them three quality players.

Dinner was on Voodoo turf (Crown City), where Annette, Tony, Sheila, Ron, Sue, Alex, Scott, Jeff, Mary, Robb, and Richard gave the Toads a rather mild taunting.

Rich got the only Homer home run of the day, a 2-run dong that put the Homers on the board in the second. The lack of any other big blows led to Richard's winning the 1997 M. Homer (soul) award, though Amy in Toad right thwarted his effort to extend his lead by making an excellent run-down and throw on Richard's triple in the third.

Defensively, kudos go to everyone who played left field up to the 6th inning when the sprinklers finally shut off. On the other hand, they do seem to be a good antidote for soccer players. It turns out that Robb pitched the only two innings where Voodoo didn't score, though that is not necessarily an attribution of credit.
