2 June 1998: Rick's Reject 10, HOMERS 34

From: KELVIN::OSMAN "Jeff Osman" 3-JUN-1998 18:46:53.21

Fearing that the HOMERS may have found themselves shorthanded due to an unfortunate combination of business travel schedules, vacation schedules, and B-league schedules, HOMERS management jumped into action. HOMERS manager Richard Chen first contacted the Seattle Mariners about a possible trade for Randy Johnson, but couldn't come to terms. Then he realized that Hideo Nomo didn't have anywhere to be so he tried to work a deal with him. Unfortunately, Richard's Japanese is even weaker than his Chinese, so again no deal could be reached. Finally, Richard went back to what he is good at, and begged several former HOMERS to come out of retirement to help out the team. Judging from the results, he did the right thing.

What a day for the HOMERS bats!

The HOMERS had an offensive field day hitting what may be a HOMERS record of 12 home runs in a single game. Scott only had one, but it was a grans slam! Ron had four; Richard had 2; Tony had 2; Tim had 1; and Ingrid had 2!

With a performance like that it is hard to find an offensive star of the day, however, special recognition needs to go to Ingrid, Raul and Rich. Both Ingrid and Raul are former HOMERS that Richard was able to convince to come out of retirement, and Rich is fresh off of the disabled list. All three instantly made an impact to the HOMERS by providing a combined 2 home runs, 4 doubles, and 3 singles. Welcome back to all of you.

With all of those runs being scored, who can remember the defense? All I can recall is that the HOMERS did turn two double plays, including one in the bottom of the 7th inning to end the game.

After the game the real HOMERS dinner at Crown City Brewery was attended by Scott, Sue, Ron, Jeff, Lisa, and Annette. Tim, Tony, and Richard showed up after the bill was paid, so we will leave it up to the judges to decide if they deserve HOMERS dinner points or not.

Next week's game is on Monday June 8 versus the Goat Scouts on H2. As usual let Richard or Jeff know if you can't make it.

The 34 runs we scored yesterday tied the Homers team record. We had a 34-9 game against the Vas-Y Bears in 1995, though only 2 homers were hit in that game. The 12 homers yesterday easily broke the previous team record of 8.

The Homers also gave up 34 runs in a game, when they lost 30-34 in 1991 to a now forgotten team called the Maulers.
