30 June 1998: Voodoo Toad Fury 9, HOMERS 17

From: Scott C Morgan <Scott.C.Morgan@jpl.nasa.gov>

Time make many things inevitable: the HOMERs will have a barbecue to mark the longest day of the year, the US soccer team will finish last in the World Cup, a HOMER shortstop (unnamed) will throw a ball into the street, and HOMERs will move away from the LA area. Yesterday, all of these events came together at a single time. Much as the people who created Stonehendge centuries ago, the HOMERs were awed by this convergence of cosmic events. To mark the occasion, the HOMERs performed a feat that will be remembered even longer than the building of large stone monoliths - they destroyed the arch-rival Voodoo Toad Fury.

Historians will record the following events marking this important time:

The score:

                 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
     HOMERs 6 3 6 1 1 0 0 17
     Toads 3 0 0 2 1 0 3 9

     Sue -------field manager------
Students of this epic event will note the arrival of HOMER debutante Adrienne (Welcome!) and the departure of HOMER regular Tim (Au Revoir!).

Those studying the offensive components of the game will find HOMER homers clocked by Tony (2), Tim, Ron, Rich, and Amy - and also the fact that Richard warmed up minus his shirt.

Defensively, annalists will note two great catches by Annette, including one of a sharp line drive at third which was followed by a rather severe taunting of the batter. Also of note was Adrienne's muliple tagging of first base to insure that the Toad manager would be thoroughly humiliated on an infield ground out.

Those swelling the HOMER army from the sidelines were: Sharon & Jeremy, Brian, Lisa, Adam, & Michael, Lance, Sara & Mickey, Daniel, Karen, Raul, Casey, and Shiela. One spectator was so overwhelmed by the significance of the occasion that the Toad mascot (a frog, of course) was unceremoniously tossed into a large puddle.

Huge kudos go to Richard for organizing the second annual HOMER summer solstice barbecue immediately after the game. Raul gets kudos for being a very capable chef for the event. Thanks go to everyone, both HOMERs and Toads, for bringing food, soda, beer, and supplies to make the event a big success.

Next game is Wednesday, July 8 against "The O-Zone" on field H2. Please let Richard or Jeff know if you will not be able to make it.
