8 July 1998: HOMERS 22, The O-Zone 9

From: Tony Ganino <aganino@mail1.jpl.nasa.gov>

Well, as they say, life goes on. So, true to form, there was nary a mention of their departed brethren (that's Tim you boobs) and the homers went back to business as usual - that is, overthrowing first from more than one direction, missing slow grounders, and routinely covering bases with two fielders. Despite this and the fact that we trailed until the fifth inning, we did manage to win and reach the mercy rule in the process:

The score:

             1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Ozone 2 3 1 3 0 0 0 9
HOMERs 0 2 3 3 6 8 - 22

Highlights of the game included a transformation of Adrienne into a creature that looked a lot like Sheila but could hit (hey, I'm allowed a little discretion, she's my wife), a nice offensive job by Ron who hit for the cycle (that is, 4 for 4, 1 of each for those unfamiliar with the term), and dingers by Scott (1, 3R), Tony (1, 3R), and Joe (1, 1R). Defensive honors go to Annette because the only play I remember is the repeat performance of her line drive snag at 3B - where was the taunting following the play?

Special mention should be given to the mascot line-up, which included our newest member (sorry Adrienne, honors are short-lived on this team), Gyro, aka "the dingo ate your baby" dog. Living up to the rookie code of honor, Gyro showed her respect for elders by taking to neck- and back-biting on the older, wiser, and much better behaved Kona. Like her teammates before her, Kona took revenge on the younger, less wise rookie. Once freed from her ice-cooler bound captivity, Kona lured the still-leashed Gyro into a full speed, leash-induced backflip. I guess it is a dog-eat-dog world out there.

Our next game is next Wednesday, July 15 vs. the Gravity Fielders on field H3. As usual, let Richard or Jeff know if you can't make it.
