Game 2, POE (Post Ohm Era).
With apologies in advance to those who are not in position to physically defend themselves!
Now that the World Cup has drawn to it's laborious conclusion, we can reflect on how history will view the heroes and goats of the last few weeks. Certainly names like Zidane and Bergman will be held in the same regard internationally that names such as Jordan, Ruth, Namath, and Gretzky are held here in the good 'ol USofA. While names such as Rinaldo and Sampson will be held in the same esteem as Billy 'through the wickets' Buckner and Donny 'Sorry, Mr. Autrey' Moore.
It should therefore come as no surprise that we contemplate how history will view those heroes and goats of Homer legend in the years to come. Certainly names such as Chen, Morgan, Baalke, Osman, Wittman, Benesh, and Ganino will serve as inspirations to future softballers around the world. However, what of those that serve as less of an inspiration, as an icon for disappointment, as that one example of what 'not' to be on the softball field. History plays an evil game in this regard, and I'm afraid that in spite of his incredible performances on the field for many years, I offer for your consideration (albeit reluctantly) the name Ohm. As future generations reflect on the greatness that could have been, I surmise the comments will be: "If only he'd played just one more season." " He could have been a contenda." Alas, I suppose we'll just never know.
Thus inspired to greatness (or the fear of comparisons to Rinaldo), the Homers continued their winning ways with a 36-13 victory over the Gravity Fielders.
The score:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 HOMERs 3 22 6 1 3 1 0 36 Gravity Fielders 4 0 0 1 1 7 0 13
The Defense:

Individual achievements of note: 4 baggers by Scott (a Grand Slam!), Ron, and 3 by Tony, and an almost 4 bagger by Sheila. Defensive honors go to Rich for a surprise stab at a line drive at first. Also of note was Rich's attempt to win the "How many times can I touch the ball without catching it" award, with his glove to hand to head to face attempt while at short. Joe also made a run at the award with a running, juggling grab while in center, but unfortunately actually held onto the ball, thus eliminating him from the competition.
Homer Honorable Mention this week goes to Jeff, who was able to ignore the incessant chants of "Emmy, Emmy, Emmy" (for his recent stellar performance on California Gold), and went five for five at the plate.
The post game celebration convened at Round Table, and was attended by Lisa, Annette, Ron, Sue, Scott, Jeff, Robb, and Rich. However, spirits were dampened considerably when one un-named Homer was overheard saying "OK, I'll have another beer. After all, I'm just going back to work after this."
Nest week's contest is on Thursday, July 23 against the Devil Rays on H2. The usual disclaimers apply (If you're not going to be there, yada yada yada).
