26 August 1998: HOMERS 15, Crawdads 3

From: Annette K Nasif <Annette.K.Nasif@jpl.nasa.gov>

As the end of the C-league softball season nears, the Homers declared victory over the Eclectic Eccentrics with a 15 to 3 win. The weather was beautiful, the teasing was friendly, and the dogs even sort of behaved (thanks to Rich for nursing Kona through her separation anxiety episodes).

With many thanks to Sue for being our devoted field manager

The line score:

                        1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Eclectic Eccentrics 0 1 0 1 0 0 1 - 3
HOMERS 0 3 2 3 5 2 0 - 15
This was not a game for which the Homers will be remembered for their offensive talents. There were many singles and doubles but, sadly, we did not live up to our namesake. The only shining light was Scott, who slammed a two run homer in the sixth inning. There are reports, however, of a certain drink-providing player who desperately tried to help his home run ranking by standing behind veteran batters and whispering, "No home runs, no home runs!" Is it a coincidence that our batting sucked? The jury is still out.

Defensively, the Homers played very well and limited the opposing team's runs to a pitiful three. The game ball goes to Joe, who made a spectacular one handed catch to give the Eclectic Eccentrics their third out in the second inning. Not to be outdone, David produced a saving tip-of-the-glove catch in the seventh inning. The team work award goes to Richard, Robb, and Adrienne who conspired for a jaw-dropping double play in the fifth inning. Finally, we must tip our hats to Richard who did not give up any runs while pitching in the third inning.

Cheering us on was David's family; Barbara, Brian and Aaron. Kona, still pining for Tim and Casey, had to settle for Daniel and Gyro who made an appearance late in the game.

The season ending game will be held on Thursday (9/3) against the Goat Scouts on field H2. Please contact Richard or Jeff if you will not be attending.
