The algorithm to determine the winner:
number of regular season games attended
if tied, irregular season games attended
if tied, lowest sum of order of appearance at regular season
games
if still tied, order of appearance at irregular games
Order of appearance also pretty much determines: 1) each game's batting
order,
2) the order of sitting out defensively,
and 3) who gets sent over to the other team if they don't
have enough. Note: the payment of team fees counts as an irregular
game.

This might not have been the best game for the Homers, but the trees were
very excited. Both teams batted their fair share of foul balls, but not
to worry because the trees behind the backboard fielded all of them
beautifully. No threats of being turned into paper by the paper tigers
deterred them from playing for each team equally.
Another surprise was in the outfield as a stranger was helping out the
Homers, wait that was Austin, who is now taller than Andy. Austin did a
great job in outfield and made some outs.
Spectators were Sue, Sofie, Danny, Bella and Matt. Dinner was at Rounds

On a pleasant evening in Hahamonga Park, the Homers took on the
McKringleberries. The evening was made more pleasant (for Homers
and fans) when the Homers finished with a win. There were some notable
defensive plays by Homers. Kim made a great play getting the ball from
the outfield to Slim at second for the out; Homer rookie Alyssa made a
nice catch at second; and Andy had a 'fancy' catch. On offense, Tony
Ganino had a grand slam and Homer Rookie Dylan got on the HR board.
Andy and Slim also had home runs. Team manager Jeff conveniently showed
up to verify the outcome just in time for dinner.

The HOMERS came out to play the softball team with the most consecutive
seasons playing in JPL's C League, The Crawdads, who have been playing
in the League for at least 32 consecutive years.
The HOMERs started fast, leaving the crustaceans in the dust on a hot and
humid day. The HOMERs led 15-0 before a mighty Crawdad laced a ball to
left field in the 5th inning, all the way to first base on the HS field,
eliminating the shutout bid.
HOMER offensive highlights included everyone getting at least 2 hits,
and everyone scoring at least one run (except for Richard...). HOMER rookie,
and most junior player, Alyssa, even got a double in only her second game
of the season. The early softball lessons (circa 2001) apparently made an
impact:
HOMER defense was solid, with Tony turning in some good plays at
shortstop.
Next game is Tuesday against the Hingle McKringleberries on the South (grass)
field. As always, please let Richard and Jeff know if you will not be able
to make it.

REVENGE. \ri-'venj\ First known use was in
the 14th century. It is a noun that means: The act of defeating an opponent
who has defeated you in the past.
Last month the LA Radars came back from behind to beat the almighty Homers
19-20. The Homers knew that they were a better team and have been waiting
to get their REVENGE.
The Homers were not going to mess around and take it easy with the sneaky
Radars, who had waited until the end of the game to make their move. The
plan this time was to hit as many home runs as possible and keep them in
mercy for most of the game. There were a total of SEVEN home runs hit by
Rich, Richard, Tony Ga, Scott and Tony G.
Alyssa and Dylan made their debut as the new generation of Homers. They
both got a hit on their first at bat.
Defensively, the Homers again showed their superiority with several great
plays and very few errors. In the 6th inning Richard was playing shortstop
and was involved in all three outs, almost four. Jeff was playing catcher
and noticed that the runner on first was taking a big lead. He signaled
to Rich at 1st and threw out the sucker with his cannon.
The strategy worked and the Homers got their REVENGE by winning 25-10.

Twenty years ago this week in 1994, Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 impacted
Jupiter 21 times. I had done the Comet SL9 website, and I remember
being exhausted during the HOMERS game back then, a 20-13 loss to the
Deep Space Cadets. This time around, the HOMERS did much better,
beating a very good Titans team by a final score of 19-6. The HOMERS
got off the a quick start by scoring 10 runs in the first inning,
and had the Titans mercied nearly the entire game. But the HOMERS
really won the game with their....DEFENSE? The Titans were at full
strength with all their big sluggers, yet the HOMERS held them to
only 6 runs through 7 innings. Amazing.
Home runs were hit by Tony (1st innning) and Ron (7th inning). Jeff
went 4 for 4 and Scott & Daniel went 3 for 3. Slim was 2 for 2 before
leaving early. Annette hit a deep drive for a double.
On the defensive end, there were several highlights. Slim made a spectacular
leaping catch at shortstop and doubled off the runner to complete a double
play. Tony caught several deep fly balls in the outfield. Kim made an
outstanding running catch of the ball behind first base. Slim and Tony
left early, and Daniel and Richard filled in admirably. Daniel caught
everthing hit to him in the outfield, and Richard made two excellent plays
at shortstop in the 7th inning to help quickly end the game.

We came, we saw, we kicked our own @sses. What was intended to be a game
against the C League free agents evolved, with the final composition:
- free agents: 3 (Damien Nguyen, Brian Walker, Jeff Favretto)
- regular Homers: 12
- next-generation Homers: 3 (Eric, Alyssa, Haley)
- alumni Homers: 2 (Steve, Sheila)
which was enough for a 10-on-10 that moved quickly, all seven innings
completed around 7:10.
Dinner at Round Table: Scott, Andy, Annette, Daniel, Eric, Renee, Rich,
Richard, Jessica, Jeff, Clement, Robb, Steve, and Brian W.
Highlights: Scott might have hit two home runs. Annette caught Richard's
deep fly. Steve made a lot of putouts at P. Eric took one on the chest
defensively to stop a throw. Alyssa might have had 4 chances defensively,
all cleanly fielded. Haley had the best offensive sting per pound.
Our next game is Tuesday, July 15, on the dirt field vs. the Titans. Please
let Jeff or Richard know if you won't make it.
From: Unknown sources (Rich Benesh)
After a momentus victory over the TOADs deep in the jungles of Brazil (HS),
a ragtag group of a dozen HOMERS returned to civilization to take on the
LA Radars (Even our manager Jeff failed to make the game - it was rumored
he was still bar-hopping in Rio with Scott M. and Robb). And the Homers
were no different than the World Cup squads that played in the jungle,
running out of gas at the end and dropping a 1 run game to the Radars.
Offensively, the HOMERS started out with a bang, scoring 10 runs before the
first out (mercy out) was recorded in the top of the first inning, finishing
with an 11-0 lead. At this point, the HOMERS problems were made worse when
two players left to play in another game, and the scoring withered thereafter
with the HOMERS failing to score in 3 of the 6 innings. The HOMERS also failed
to live up to their rep, not recording a homerun during the contest. Rich
led the offense with a 4-for-4 night, literally sending the Radar pitcher
running from the mound with his 5th inning liner up the middle.
Defensively, the HOMERS suffered from not getting their customary 2 to 3
innings off during the game, but still turned some good plays. In the first
inning, one of the Radars lined a shot to centerfield gap, appearing to be a
homerun, but Daniel ran the ball down, through a strike to Richard, who fired
accurately(!) to Andy at home to get the surprised Radar by 10 feet. In the
third inning, the HOMERS turned a routine 6-2-5-6 doubleplay
(Andy-Richard-Rich-Andy), on a pop fly/rundown with Andy recording both
putouts (yes, Richard made a 2nd accurate throw!). The fourth inning ended
when the Radar baserunner got tangled up with Tony Ga. on a popup, while
Daniel ended the 5th making a catch of a low line drive just above the
ground, with LOTS of ball showing. In the bottom of the 6th, it looked
like the HOMERS might hang on for the win when Richard caught a flyball
in left, eschewed trying to gun the runner at home, and made another
accurate throw to Rich to keep the tying run at 2nd base (STOP THE
PRESSES!!!!!). Unfortunately, fatigue caught up with the HOMERS at this
point, and the Radars went on to score the tying and winning runs. Kim also
had a good game on D, recording 3 forceouts at 2nd base during the course
of the game.

[until Dave finishes, here's an interim report from Richard Chen]
We Homers played solidly, beating our archrivals for the third consecutive
time. Beginning with Daniel and Mary, the devastating 6th started with 6
consecutive hits to give us the lead for good. Scott, Eric, and Daniel
hit safely every time up, while Andy and Tony Gr homered in the first,
with the latter keeping up his Ruthian pace of homering as much as the
rest of the team combined. Andy also made the play of the day in RC,
slipping onto his backside in the 5th, yet still catching the fly to
end the inning. However, the Homer of the day was Jeff, who sat himself
to work on the extremely difficult lineup of 16 players, equitably
distributing the playing time so that everyone played 4 or 5 innings,
with no egregiously weak defensive innings.

There is no question anymore about whether the Kings are the KINGS of
Hockey! And there is no question, either, about whether the HOMERS
would double-mercy the Double Mercy! Oh, SNAP!!
Yes, last Monday's game at Hahahahamonga Park was a walk in that park for
the first half of the game, as the HOMERS kept the Double Mercy scoreless
for 4 innings, while their offense ran up the score until it was a
dizzying 17-0.
That was a Good Thing too, since in the 5th and 6th inning, the DMs held
the HOMERS scoreless while they scored 7 to at least get back their good
name. In the final inning both teams scored 2, so the HOMERS still pulled
out a pretty lopsided win of 19-9.
The only homerun by a HOMER was in the first, when Tony Greicius hit a
missle that unfortunately the defenders got back rather quickly, so Tony
and Jessica were close to being a double-play at the plate. Ron had a
triple in the third. Nearly everyone got a hit, and the top half of the
5th was nonexistent since 2 outs were already in place for the double
mercy, and we lacked a woman spot in the lineup, so that made 3 outs. The
HOMERS basically stayed on the field and played the bottom of the 5th.
Defensively, Slim and Tony Ganino com! bined for a double-play in the
second inning, with Slim catching the ball already moving, touching 2nd
and firing to 1st. A beauty! There were many many other great defensive
plays, too, or we would not have held the DMs scoreless for 4 innings, but
apparently whoever holds the lineup sheet during the game thinks the report
writer will have a DVR memory and recall all those plays without notes.
Sorry, not even Ron could help me remember, so jot down those good plays!
Finally, thanks to Andy for creating this great spreadsheet box, which I
will unashamedly repurpose for my own purposes...

First off, today's game is today on HN (the dirt field) against
Double Mercy.
Second off, here's last game's report:
On a beautiful (Very) sunny day two teams came to play on the HS north field
of JPL's C League Softball. The Eclectic Eccentrics put up a good fight,
but the Homers emerged victorious by a score of 19 - 11. They didn't even
need to bat in the bottom of the 7th.
The day's home-runs were earned with cunning & speed, except for
Richard's. He is still slowed by injury and had to hit the ball half a mile
for his 4-bagger in order to run around the bases before they could track
the ball down. Slim and Tony Gr. took the more speed & cunning oriented
routes, rounding the bases for homers on what appeared to be doubles (much to
the crowd's delight). Well, the Homer's crowd at least.
Defensive highlights included - Ron's 3 putouts at pitcher in the 1st
inning (showing off some impressive reaction time) - Tony Ga.'s acrobatic
catch at pitcher in the 3rd - Annette's backhanded grab & tag at 3rd
base for the 3rd out of the 4th inning (she made a few good stops over at 3rd).
The other ESPN highlight of the game occurred when Tony Ga. aware of the
mercy out his RBI created rounded the bases vying for a homer even though
the throw beat him to the plate by more than a few steps. A very impressive
spin move did not avoid the out, but entertained the crowd immensely (not
only the Homer crowd, but the Eccentrics and Frisbee golfers as well).

Kim was involved in the first 6 outs made defensively in addition to 2 more
for a total of 8 outs. Way to go Kim "Studette" Steadman.
In the 3rd inning there was a 1-2-3 (pitcher/catcher/1st baseman) double
play which consisted of players Ron-Rich-Robb... guess that makes it a
3R play. Joe once again proved his value in left field, ably handling
everything hit his way.
As far as I can tell the only homeruns were hit by Tony Gr and he hit
2 of them. Way to go Tony.

It was a very hot day as the Homers took the field against the Paper Tigers.
The Homers started out slowly and took a hit (so to speak) as the top part
of the lineup headed off to other engagements at 6pm leaving the remaining
Homers to try and remember who they followed in the batting order.
The game was decided by 1 run (again) but this time the Homers were on the
short end of the score. The Homers offense waited until the last inning
to spring to life with 7 runs but it wasn't enough to secure a win.
Reading the notes or lack of notes on the score sheet proved to be a real
challenge so I'm not sure if any home runs were hit by the Homers.
The score sheet also did not seem to actually match what positions people
actually played so I have left it out of the report.

Hmmm, I suspect nothing more is coming. From memory:
- Annette had the biggest hit of the game, a solid 2-run line drive
in the 6th over the second baseman to finally tie the game
- another great turnout - 14+ for the 4th straight game.
- Jeff nicely juggled the lineup yet again
- very good game from Slim at SS: a quick turn on a 1-6-3 double play,
and a good snag of a grounder up the middle
- Robb filled in well at LC, bobbling and catching a high fly
- Daniel also had a nice running, knee-high catch from LC
- Daniel, Eric, and Richard smartly hit hard grounders that the
Bruisers could not field to win the game in the 7th
Next week's game is Wednesday, May 14, on the grass field again. Please
inform Jeff or Richard if you can't make it. No Jeff or Robb so far.

The sports world is in crisis. Calls for changes at the top of one of
sports marquee franchises are in the air. Top management has been caught
making some pretty embarrassing and unacceptable comments. The late night
comics are just licking their lips at the opportunities for some cheap
laughs at management's expense. Everyone is waiting to see what happens
next.
Donald Sterling??? LA Clippers??? NO! We are talking the HOMERS after
suffering their first loss of the year to the Titans. The loss of an
opportunity for a perfect season may mean it is time for changes at the top.
The nonchalant attitude of HOMERS management to this shocking turn of events
is seen by some as an embarrassment to the whole organization.
HOMERS management would be worried, except that no one else wants to take
on their responsibilities, so I guess things will just keep going on as
they have for years now.
The HOMERS started off strong, but then the sun went down and the Titans
batters could start seeing what they were swinging at and the game turned
around. The HOMERS made a valiant come-back effort in the bottom of the
7th, but ended up falling short by one run.

Offensively Tony Gr had a big night going 3-for-3 with 2 home runs. Ron had a
home run and went 3-for-3. Andy and Rich also went 3-for-3 as well.
There were a few defensive gems as well. Of particular note were 2 double
plays. One Ron snagging a line drive and tossing to Mary to pick off the
runner who wondered too far off 2nd base. The other the rare unassisted
double play pulled off by Tony Ga making a catch at shortstop and then
stepping on 2nd to force out a wondering runner as well.
Dinner was held at Round Table. The Titans showed good sportsmanship by
sending over a pitcher of libations to the HOMERS table to help the HOMERS
forget the agony of defeat. Joining in the dinner were Ron, Sue, Andy,
Jessica, Matt, Jeff, Robb, Scott, Rich, Richard, Stephanie, Clement, Becky,
Sofi, and Bella.
Next week's game is Tuesday May 6, 2014 against the Bruisers. This will be
our first game of the year on the grass field, HS. Scott has already let it
be known that the post game dinner will be some place other than Round Table,
so plan accordingly. You know the routine about notification in case you
won't make the game.

The last time this writer had the honor of reporting on a Homers game
it was May of 2013 against a new C League team, the Hingle
McKringleberries. They were young, fast, enthusiastic, but never
really posed a threat to the veteran Homers team. Last Tuesday the
two teams faced off again and the Homers opponents were still young,
fast, and enthusiastic... but this time they had matching team
shirts... and cleats!... and trailed the Homers by only 1 run after
3 innings...and turned a triple play in the 5th inning by causing
massive baserunning confusion among the Homers when their outfielder
dropped a ball that all the baserunners thought was a catch so
everybody returned to their bases. Fortunately the heroic Homers
managed to score 6 runs in the 4th inning to win 15 to 9 since neither
team scored any runs in the late innings. Homers management is busy
strategizing for future matchups with the H. McKringleberries as they
fear the rate at which the nascent team is developing.
The Homers turned 3 double plays during the game. (1) Slim at SS and
Scott at 1B nearly converted a triple play as Slim caught the ball
and stepped on 2nd to catch the runner off the base, but the runner at 1st
made it back to the base in the nick of time. (2) Joe at LF
strategically remained frozen an excruciatingly long time then charged
in to catch a pop fly, surprising the runner at 2nd who already took
off for 3rd thinking the left fielder had turned into a statue. Andy
made a great effort to handle the throw and flopped on the base to
complete the play. (3) On the last play of the game, Ron and Scott
converted a double play to secure the Homers victory.
Slim had the sole homer for the Homers to cap off the 6 run rally in the
4th inning that ultimately won the game.

Throughout time man has attempted to provide an explanation for phenomena
he does not understand. As an example, ancient Incas believed that a Lunar
eclipse was actually a Jaguar eating the moon. It was believed that after
consuming the moon, the Jaguar would fall to earth and begin to devour
anyone it came in contact with. To chase the jaguar away, Incans would pound
stakes together, encourage their dogs to howl, or simply stay hidden.
Fortunately, the Homer faithful are not a particularly superstitious lot,
for on the cusp of a total lunar eclipse they came out in force with a
resounding 21-5 victory over the Wild Turkeys.
It was a great start to the year offensively. Every Homer reached base at
least once in the first inning, and every Homer crossed the plate at least
once during the game. Game 1 homers were hit by Richard, Tony Gr, Ron, and
Daniel (the grand slam variety). The double mercy rule was in effect by
the third inning, thus the offensive onslaught was limited to the first
3 innings.
The Homers were pretty solid in the field as well. Defensive highlights
included a sliding (for Richards sake I'll say diving) catch of a fly ball
in right field, and a Warren/Wittman Production 3rd (Wittman -> Scott,
Warren -> Scott, Wittman -> Scott). Slim also initiated a double play,
stepping on second and accurately throwing to first.
