The algorithm to determine the winner:

  • number of regular season games attended
  • if tied, irregular season games attended
  • if tied, lowest sum of order of appearance at regular season games
  • if still tied, order of appearance at irregular games
  • Order of appearance also pretty much determines: 1) each game's batting order, 2) the order of sitting out defensively, and 3) who gets sent over to the other team if they don't have enough. Note: the payment of team fees counts as an irregular game.

    7 May 2025: Homers 20, Crawdads 5

    From: Jeff Osman

The tradition of the Conclave to select a new Pope goes back a long time in history. Long before the media made it into the spectacle that it has become today. The rules are strict. No one but Cardinals below the age of 80 are included. Each Cardinal takes a vow of secrecy. They are cut off from the world until they have completed their assigned mission. These days that means no phones, no computers, and no internet. Once the current Cardinals realized this also would cut them off from hearing the results of this week's Homers game, they were suddenly motivated to act quickly and finish the process. White smoke has been seen over the Sistine Chapel so the Cardinals (and the new American Pope) can now learn that the Homers soundly defeated the Crawdads once again.

The game was never really much in doubt as a tight team of 10 Homers were in control over the much larger gathering of Crawdads from the first inning. Every Homer got at least 1 hit. Johnny had a monster game with 2 home runs and Abby joined him with one of her own by legging out a solid shot to right field that somehow managed to stay in play and avoid the ground rule double.

Defensively several standout plays come to mind including a show string catch by Chad in left field, a rebound tag out at third base by Abby after she missed the first time but got the runner after he couldn't stay on the bag, and a sharp double play with Abby catching a sharp line drive and quickly throwing to AJ at first to catch the runner leading off too far.

The Homers welcomed back Tony Gr for his first appearance in over a year. His current focus on improving his pickleball skills may have made his softball skills seem a bit rusty at first, but by the end of the game he was back in the swing of things.

Dinner was held at Taco Social and attended by Jeff, Annette, Daniel, Tony Gr, Lisa, AJ, and Abby.

The next game is on Tuesday May 13 against Mercy Be Crazy on field HS. Make sure you let Richard and Jeff know as early as possible if you aren't going to make it.

    28 April 2025: Titans 21, Homers 16

    From: Calla Cofield

Hi Homers, Apologies for the delay in sending out this report. I'd like to blame general absentmindedness, exacerbated by everything going on in the world. Or, perhaps deep down I did not want to commit to the record the embarrassing statistic I achieved at this game (read on to see what it was).

The battle of the Homers vs the Titans was fit for a Greek epic. During the first inning the Titans let no runs in and scored 2, but the Homers responded in kind, allowing no runs and gaining 3 in the second inning. From there, the Titans unleashed a powerful storm of line drives that even a deity couldn't stop. With the score 14-5 in the middle of the 5th, the Homers called on the power of the gods and tightened the gap to just 2 runs. But the Titans proved too powerful, and the mighty Homers lost 21-16.

Still, the story will undoubtedly be passed down through the generations. Children will hear the tale of Annette, who had two amazing catches in RCF in the 5th and 7th innings. Or when Chad threw the ball from the depths of left field to Abby in the infield, who made a throw to Wally so straight and true it must have been guided by Artemis, for the out at home. What will hopefully be left out is that Calla was the third out of the inning EVERY TIME SHE WENT TO BAT. FOUR TIMES.

Needless to say, it was an epic game for all of us.

    22 April 2025: Eclectic Eccentrics 14, Homers 24

    From: Ana Morino

    Good Morning Homers!

I definitely did not forget I volunteered to do the Homers Report last week. So friendly reminder we have a game today, 4/28, Homers vs Titans (HN Field).

Homers are 2-0 in the season, beating the Eclectic Eccentrics by 10 points (Homers 24 - Eclectic Eccentrics 14).

    Starting with our offensive highlights:
    - Johnny made a surprising guest appearance. Despite not playing in the 2024 season, hit 2 homeruns!
    - Chad and Steve also joined the homerun board, each hitting one homerun.
    - Tony went 4 for 4
    - Abby and Calla went 3 for 3

    For our defensive highlights:
    - A perfectly orchestrated rundown between 2nd and 3rd base. The ball was hit to center field and the runner at 2nd thought they could make it to 3rd base. But Johnny (CF) threw it to Ana (3B), causing the runner to turn around. Ana then threw it to Tony (SS), causing the runner to turn around again. Steve (C) came running from behind the plate and was ready at 3rd. Tony ran the runner down most of the way before tossing it to Steve for the out. Well done Homers!
    - Calla caught a hard line drive at second and turned it to Chet at 1st for a double play

    Attendance:
Jeff, Ron, Tony, Steve, Chad, Rob, Ana, Johnny, Annette, Calla, Richard, Abby, Chet, Dora, Lisa, Daniel, and Steve's kids (who were very proud of this homerun), and Chet's kid.

    See you all tonight!

    14 April 2025: Homers 18, Bruisers 11

    From: Richard Chen

Hey, hey, the 2025 season started splendidly, with we Homers beating the Bruisers 18-11. This was a bad offseason to recap for those of us working to discover or disseminate truths, so let's get some hot takes on the game:
+What a great day to start the season - sunny, maybe 75°, nicely manicured grass, successful hawks,...
+Welcome back to Clipper refugees Ana, who went 4-for-5 and made all the plays at 3B, and Tony Ga, who also hit into only one out and kept the game moving at P. Welcome to newbie Steve, who at 2B nicely speared a high liner to his right and drove in the first Homer run in what otherwise would have been a blank inning despite having bases loaded and no outs.
-The game ended with a literal thud when Abby started the 7th with a line drive to the outfield that LF and LC ran so hard after that they didn't see one another and collided head-to-head. They were but half the Bruiser casualties of the day, as the pitcher's lower half kept getting in the way of hard-hit balls, and first baseman Heather took a low throw on her ankle.
+Hitting stars of the day: Annette went 4-for-4, driving in runs in the 3 at bats with runners on base, and AJ, who also went 4-for-4. Wow, grouping hits together: the bottom 4 went 14-for-16 with 11 runs scored.
+Richard got the first Homer home run of the year, a misread line drive to LF that put us up for good
-However, at dinner (attended by Chad, Annette, Daniel, AJ, Abby, Ron, Dora, and Richard) Richard had an epic, gut-eviscerating joke about a recalibrated A-10 clearing the field of gophers, but our aeronautical engineers eschewed laughing and instead debated whether I really wanted an AC-130 or even better, an Apache helicopter. Stupid truth-tellers. (OK, I'm exaggerating, for they did laugh, but they really did get caught up in debating the proper aircraft.)

Next week's game is Tuesday, April 22, on field HN (dirt field) against the Eclectic Eccentrics. Please inform Richard and/or Jeff if you won't be there. Cheers to all those who are able to click "Accept" or even "Decline" on the calendar invites more than 1 day before the game. And regulars, you likely owe Jeff money - $50.

    History

After each game, she or he who chooses the dinner location writes a reasonably factual Homers Report:
